ZHP?

I'm learning here

I have noticed reference to | ZHP | in a couple of member signatures.

I also did a forum search (albeit a quick search) and found the ZHP Shift Knob to be a popular add-on, and if I understand it correctly, it is shorter and weighted differently providing a better shifting experience?

But I wonder if there is more to ZHP in the Z4's that a sporty shift knob?
Mine is a 2006 3.0si - which I believe is the sport edition and has that shift knob, is that just part of the ZHP Package?
What does ZHP stand for? What is all included in a ZHP Package if there is such a thing?

If you have a ZHP knob it has a silver ring at the base and a leather knob. The standard sport knob is solid plastic and longer.

3.0si denotes the engine. Yours will be a 3.0si Sport or a 3.0si SE
The 'sport' gives you an M sport wheel and M sport suspension and M sport seats. The ZHP knob is an add-on modification and is heavier and shorter as you say.

so is there a way to determine all the options that my Z4 came with?
besides the obvious I can see such as:

6 Speed Manual
Power Top
Heated Seats
ZHT Shift Knob
Navigation
OnBoard Computer
Sport Mode
Power Seats
Auto Climate Control
Cruise
Steering Wheel Controls
Style 108 Bolted Star Wheels
Fog Lights
Metallic Paint
Storage Package
Bluetooth

"Sport Suspension? - unsure

2006 BMW Z4 3.0SI
VIN: 4USBU53586LW92186

Put the last 7 digits of your VIN into this website https://www.mdecoder.com and it will give you the information you want.

i have a heavy knob.. but its got an ordinary thread on it - can it be converted ? its typical of bmw to find a different way of making more money

ZHP was an American option package ("performance package") on the E46. The shift knob used on that car is very popular among Z4 owners, as well as many other BMW's. It's smaller and heavier than the stock Z4 knob.

Here's my old ZHP coupé, I owned it for 6 years and sold it last year. Fantastic car.

Sacrilegious comment, but... I switched to the ZHP a while ago and I think I actually preferred the standard item. Although I haven't switched back.

Keep your face away when you pull the old knob off :P
I got a nice swollen lip when changing over to the ZHP

Sounds like it is a weighted shift knob. Has anyone weighed the two knobs to see the difference? My Honda Fit came with a measly 80 grab shifter so I swapped it out for a 435 gram and liked the change.

Is the ZHP standard on the Z4MC- mine is as you describe and looks like the photo Marlon posted but it was on the car when I bought it.

Unfortunately I can’t post a photo because the doors won’t open due to ice - just tried

Looks like I was talking shite (as usual) - just enlarged this image from an older photo & clealy no silver ring round the bottom.

Something else I need to add to the list - ZHP knob

must be a Coupe thing, then..

Not all Coupes - I didn't have a problem with mine. :P

And Roadster owners have had issues too - ask Marlon!

For anyone thinking about getting one, I found this the other day which seems to cover prices these days:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0052R53PI/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Trying to forget that experience Mr Tidy, thanks for triggering my PTSD

Sorry, I was just trying to point out it isn't exclusively a Coupe issue.

At least you didn't get hurt - I believe it has been painful for some!
