Trying to decide on whether to get a ZHP shift knob... i was close to buying one on ebay an hour ago and then clicked out of it... now i think i might want one again :? what are your thoughts on these... hey or ney

(also, i am surprised that when i searched "ZHP" on the general forum, it did not return any searches)

I quite like the one below, however i can't find it in a 6 speed

The search string is too short at 3 letters. The google search on the site is down at the minute but if you go to google and type this in the search box, it will search here.

zhp site:www.z4-forum.com

I loved the ZHP when I had my 3.0.

Ok cool, thanks Wondermike... will try that... has anyone ever seen the chrome one in a 6 speed, thanks again

Ok cool, just bought one from leatherz.com

This forum is a bad hobby... thanks for all your help

I got one from leather z too. Love it.

Leather is better then chrome as it doesn't heat up and burn your hand or get scratches like chrome

Much better shift knob. When I bought the Z3 last week, it had the classic BMW shift knob from the E36 generation, black and wood veneer, long and awkward as hell. A bit of rummaging in the parts box turned up my old 5-speed ZHP knob (I kept it when I sold on my Z4 2.5i years ago) and it's so much better. Of course, now I need a matching handbrake cover to replace the wooden one...

My gear stick knob has just arrived at my office... :) :) :)

Before i go injuring myself or my car... do i just need to simply put the car in 4th gear and pull as hard as i can (without going through the roof) or is there an easier or better way to get it off :?

That's the way to do it. Don't put it in second... many stories out there of people who knocked their rear view mirror and broke their windshield. Don't smack yourself in the face either. :) I usually wrap a towel over my hand just in case I smack the roof.

Do NOT twist in any way. The plastic clips inside will flex and would make the shifter loose and easily come off after.

Ha, whenever I do something like this... I always try to imagine how they carry out a task like this in the BMW workshop... can't imagine one of the service guys pulling and pulling at the gear stick :)

My OEM knob went with one swift and forcefull pull. Put the lever in 4th, open the roof, stand up over the tunnel, grip the knob and pull hard. It was held in place with a little bit of glue.

The ZHP knop is nice, its height is near perfect. But the leather seems to be a bit more "grainy" than the OEM (maybe something to da with the fact that the ZHP is new an the OEM has 100.00 km on the clock...). And i didn't see any real improvement in gear change.
