hello all,

how do i go about installing the zhp? reading through the forum, some says just yank the old one off in second gear, but some says there are some cables you need to disconnect??

I have a z4mc...cheers!!

Cables if it's lit up, otherwise a tug upwards will remove it. Zhp will fit on and secured with a tap from either your hand or a rubber mallet - but cover the top with cloths to prevent damage.

1. Remove gaiter
2. Disconnect the cables
3. Remove old knob with a good tug (remembering to keep your head out of the way)
4. Fit new knob
5. Reconnect cables
6. Refit gaiter

For removal:

1. Lower roof (coupe: skip)
2. Stand proudly astride old knob and limber up (coupe: squat pitifully over it like you're laying an egg)
3. Heroically yank knob off and raise aloft in one clean motion (coupe: punch yourself in the face with both fists)
4. Acknowledge applause from passers-by (coupe: wither pathetically into driver's seat, nose bleeding)

Only thing I can add is to look at mmm-five's point 3. Remember it.

I didn't take care, and ended up with a fat lip

I came close on my E46, I seem to remember someone on E46Zone admitting to knocking his rear view mirror off the inside of the windscreen while making sure not to brain himself. The idea and imagined reaction to doing that still makes me chortle.

Found this GIF that illustrates nicely the perils of removing your OEM gearknob:
