Finally arrived from Lloyd’s Carlisle. They have been waiting for stock to come in for ages. Not sure why the pics are that way round though ?

Result - now just get it fitted!

It is so much better!

I agree they sit lower and are weighted better. Try not to hit yourself in the face removing the old one.

Yes, and mind the windscreen (and your wedding tackle).

Hi,
Any chance you could post the part number of the one you bought? I'm not nifty with the search on here yet, and need a way to check if I'm buying the right thing!
I see OceanBMW_mini have them listed for £68.99 on eBay, does that seem like a reasonable price? It seems like a lot for a gear knob to me, but if it's the going rate for a genuine one then, okay I guess..!

Mine cost £57.00 from Cotswold BMW last June, but from what I've read they have gone up about £10 so that price sounds about right.

You might get a bit more discount from Sopers in Lincoln - just tell them you are a forum member.

Part number for mine was:- B25.11.7.896.886. (Same as on the OP's box). :)

Drop the roof and stand on the seat squabs when removing the old knob!
From experience, It’s not as dangerous as you think

Keep your back straight, pump with the legs. Wear a welding mask and cricket box, just in case.

Very hard to drop the roof on mine !! 😂

Worth noting that part number is for 6 speed. The 5 speed is the same number but replace the last 3 digits with 031

Is this knob just a press fit on the shaft then? It's not threaded on or anything? (Haven't done a search for a how-to yet).

Apparently the old one should just pull straight up and off, no twisting at all. Just pull,

I'll let you know tomz !!

All done. Very pleased with it. Hard to get the old one off though.

Not sure why pics are not straight ? Anyone ?

I fitted my new gear knob today, it's a tidy little upgrade.

I saw a tip on how to get the old one off - thought I should pass it on. Put the 'box in 4th, then pull back and up on the gear knob. It still took a lot of force to extract, but the selector shaft is a bit more constrained whilst you're pulling, it makes it easier.

Need to see a picture of your nose to see if it was easy to get your old one off?

I thought the old one would be hard to get off? Due to lack of 'testing' and comments from the good folk on this forum I used 100% heave on first go. :!: I gave myself a nosebleed and a black eye as it was quite a loose fit. :headbang:

Moral of the story is always practice your escape strategy from a coupe, can be quite hard with water filled eyes and a gushing snozzle. :dizzy:

Looks good. What colour is the gaiter/centre trim? It matches the colour of the knob well. I've got one fitted and it stands out against the light grey.

The leather gaiter is black and the dash and gear surround are a brushed aluminium. So it does all match quite well
