Zed's in Bed

Tax ran out on the car, so it's time for bed for the Zed.

Washed, polished, on jacks, battery off on charge and under a bespoke cover in a toasty garage. Much as I love driving roof down on a crisp clear day, we had precious few last year so its back to the crappy old Vito Van now until Spring.

Anybody else take theirs off the road, or do you use all year round? I plan on keeping mine so I look after it/her (?).
 
I will use mine in the winter.... but it will be tucked up in garage at times. I use it as a daily driver at the moment.

My winter runaround is in for the MOT today. Fingers crossed.
 
Yes mine's in the garage but still taxed and ready to come out like today when its dry and mild! Used to SORN my old Elan for the winter - did this for 3 years without all the messing about disconnecting everything - did used to start it up every fortnight or so and very occasionally ran it up and down the drive - every April retaxed it and used it normally with no problems - may be I was lucky though - down here across the Solent its almost semi tropical !!
 
I too put mine to bed for the winter but on jacks????? That puts the full weight of the unsprung suspension components on the bushes Not a good thing! If you want to avoid flat spots on the tyres while the car is laid up you should either use tyre shoes or put a set of rubbish wheels/tyres on the car.
Unless of course the jacks are under the suspension and not on the jacking points in which case I apologise.

I will use mine as a weekend car if the weathers good until the end of the year,I Like a drive to see mum on Christmas day, then I will put it away until March/April then it's off with the covers! :)

not sure if you're asking me but if you are yes on the Isle of wight.
 
Ours is Mrs2Alps daily driver (when she's in the office!). So, yes ours will be used winter-long, and we have winter wheels and tyres for her, too. And she's a keeper, as is the other ALPINA 8) I don't believe in not using them...but I do keep them clean, salt-free and well protected against the worst the weather can chuck at them. Both are garaged overnight, and if there is ever snow this far West (rare, thankfully) they don't go out.....mostly for fear of those that do not have winters tyres or any idea how to drive in the conditions :P
 
Well chutley,i plan on keeping mine,it is garaged but we use it all through the winter,as long as its dry,heated seats on,silly hat big smile and :driving: :thumbsup:
 
I use mine as a daily driver, but keep it in the garage. So use it all winter.
Hope it doesn't snow so much this winter, I didn't enjoy that much last winter. Its mostly other people that have no concept of driving for the conditions. ( mini rant over :) )

Once they start salting the road will get the hardtop on. I take it off on nice days in the winter.
 
Similar to Ade, our Z4M Roadster is our only car, so has to be used throughout all weathers. Sadly I also don't have the benefit of a garage to put the car in; though that doesn't worry me, as it's made to withstand all weather conditions.

In terms of looking after it during winter, the main thing to consider is the amount of salt/grit on the road, so the car will need washing regularly.

As Richard has said above, my main problem with the snow is other drivers. It was for that reason alone that I took our Corsa to work when I had my previous Z4 Coupe. I couldn't risk parking it in the car park at work when there are so many people who don't adjust their driving approach during adverse conditions.

Semi tropical! Wouldn't go quite that far :D It has been strangely warm the past few days though. Still T-shirt weather when the sun's out. :o 16-17 degrees at times, for November that's crazy.

My M will be garaged be still used every weekend. I hope the cold weather won't put me off as I've spent a lot on it, so want to get as much use out of it as I can!

We don't get much snow and ice down here though really, when compared to just an hour or two further away from the coast.
 
On the one hand it's great to be able to store the Zed away - especially as she's a long-term keeper. It's gotta be better to keep her away from rain, snow and salt - and other drivers in poor weather. But not everyone has the use of two vehicles.

On the other hand, it is a bit of a shame to lock her away for the winter when I should be using her on sunny days.

But for me, I'll stick with the White Vito Van (complete with Rust and go faster attitude) in winter, and look forward to playing again next spring.

I'm going to keep using mine. I've only recently bought it, so can't bear the thought of not being able to drive it for weeks or months on end!
