Yes you're right but there's sometimes more to it than that, I only use mine for approx 3-4K a year, mainly as I have a van for work and weekends are taken up with my 9 yr old and on going house renovations, I simply don't have the time to use it more. It's crazy having a new one for this purpose I know that, but only my 2nd ever new car and I'm a bufty, a secret concours fan, it's the first time I've managed to get one, so having a new car with only dry use feeds my weird hobby...polishing and not using... :oops: I get a lot out of just owning a mint showroom car, all the suspension parts clean, underneath etc, it's crazy I know but some of us are ill... :lol: My sensible head says sell up now and buy an Alpina E85 or a Boxster or cheaper E89 and use it come rain or shine, it's just getting the heart to agree which is the stumbling block.
 
If you are anything like me, I would have a hard time enjoying an anything less than mint car. And not knowing the history, I have always hated every single second hand car I have ever had.

To be able to purchase a new car or multiple new cars is no doubt a great feeling for many
However for the many upsides there are downsides & for myself the biggest is the considerable kick in the wallet :cry:
That for me would rule out ever even considering buying one :( it would upset me far more than any quirk in a cars history or any annoying scratch or scuff
So even though I could afford a brand new car it will never happen , not even cheap lease deals can tempt me into new metal , id much rather have more time off work & run used cars :oops:
Fortunately we can rely on the PVRs & John's to keep the stock coming through :P

He loved it down when we went to Silverstome going around the twisty country roads there but in built up areas it's a no from him. Woose!
 
Believe me, mr wilks, I would much rather be like you in that aspect - but unfortunately, I just can't and have no enjoyment out of old metal at all. It even prevents me from taking nice metal to events where I can not be sure I can park properly and don't enjoy going places whilst worrying about where I parked the car :(

Ah but they are 500 miles of great drives. Plus looking to move out of the city and back out to the countryside, proper ar$e end of nowhere stuff so I'd have to use a car quite a lot.

I've had cars I've done many miles in, just depends on where I'm living and what's going on I suppose.

It'll be getting a decent run next weekend as I'm off to the footie so that'll be a good 170/180 miles at least.

And very funny PVR. Like what you've done there :thumbsup:

Flip side of that though Andy is I bought a new car at 20, and since then I have only bought toy cars at up to a max of 5k, ever, and sold them for not much less, so over the last nearly 30 years I've lost next to nothing on cars, apart from that first one at about 8k I hav'nt ever had finance, this is the first one in 30 years I've borrowed on, always saved up before, so yes it's a wallet basher, fully agree, but after all those years I bet there's not many folk that have only lost about 5k in cars, which made my silly descision a little easier.
 
I started to compile a spread sheet of the cars we've had over the years , their purchase and sale price - I had to stop, it became scary!

Indeed it can be startling :oops: I did something similar about 5 years ago , at that point I had a £8k van , mrs w was trundling around in a £15k Touareg & I had a £13k 911 in the garage for weekends
Didn't bother with spreadsheets , it was done one rainy brewtime sat in the van , the figures made my eyes water :oops:
I was effectively working for 3 months every year just to fund our households car bills with everything totted up :cry:
Halved it almost overnight & since have enjoyed playing around having half the capital tied up in 3 vehicles although actual running costs not that much difference with VED ,Insurance,fuel etc
A expensive hobby some may say but I don't golf or do anything else so happy to carry on as is for now :driving:
 
The spreadsheet helped me make the decision to dump the Landrover in !
The overall cost sheet has been dumped - I could have bought a street of houses in some towns.

Where all our money's gone, invested heavily in property for a pension and in trust for the lad.
