Zed Shed

For those who don't know the original Zedshed was begun in 2013 by enthusiasts in and around the Basingstoke area and posted their exploits on the Z3 Forum. They operated from one of their home garages and did remarkable work on Z3's, their refurbishment of rear subframes are masterpieces. A few of us on the Z3 Forum also got involved with Z3 jobs and called ourselves Zedsheds, Zedshed near Lincoln, another one in Gloucestershire and the one I run , Zedshed Cymru in South Wales. None of us are businesses and only help other members of the forum out when they need something doing, I run mine on the basis that owners supply any parts and its up to them if they want to donate anything towards running costs for garage consumables that get used. The Zedshed subject of this thread and all the complaints made about it relate to the Zedshed that is run as a business by Mr Mike Felon who actually registered the name 'Zedshed' as a company much to the disgust of the original Zedshed.
My Shed is made up with Z3 and Z4 Forum members spread across the South Wales area although we do have members around Bristol and Gloucestershire and even further afield, we all keep in touch on a Whats App locally and on the respective Forums.
The original Zedshed is now called Zedshed HQ run by Lee, they have a Facebook page here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2700238586952805
As time went on they have expanded and now operate from a bigger unit.

Thanks for the history lesson. I knew there were legit zed sheds but didn’t know all the details. Very interesting!

I owned a 350z in 2010 and a couple of guys did exactly this, repairing 350z's in their large garage space in exchange for beer tokens. Theirs was also called the Zedshed

Fat fingers and past history of locking up Felons probably the cause of my mistype, now corrected

Lisa does not seem to be a member anymore. Perhaps the warranty expired
She left him, as she had a problem with the dishwasher and he ignored her calls. So I heard!

I used Mike for some work on my first Z a few years ago. The job was well done at a fair price. Sadly there was a period when he seemed to go right off the trails and I know people who had really bad and expensive experiences with him. So this latest example illustrates accurately the variation in the quality of experience you can have when dealing with him. I would be most unhappy to have found myself in the position of the OP. As others have said it is important that accurate information is available to Forum members so they can make informed decisions in deciding whether to use the ZED shed.

Is Lisa Mike's wife? Have seen others mention she's banned them from the FB page.

If she is she didn't bother answering the front door-bell when I went to the lake with the view of ducks before Mike got back from the school-run!

When he wanted his fags he made a call on his mobile and they got lobbed out of an upstairs window. Very strange set up. :?

She obviously doubles up as 'social media executive' and PR consultant. :o

Ah so someone called Lisa runs a Z4 facebook group that seems to full of Zedshed fan bois. I was an admin briefly until she reprimanded me for accidentally letting a trader join so I blocked her and removed myself from the group. She’s got a right attitude.

Its not uncommon to be fair, FB is full of groups like this.
A chap off Pistonheads I chatted with a fair bit bought a 986 Boxster, he joined a Porsche FB group run by a group who's leader was a guy that sold pre-inspections for Porsches. Anyway he bought a pre-inspection and paid a fair whack for it as he was a 'specialist' obviously the small print in the paperwork says they aren't responsible for things that do go wrong, but, he gave it a clean bill of health and the chap bought the car.
It then inevitably went to pieces within a couple of weeks of purchase, loads of things went immediately wrong from head gasket to leaks to roof problems and the car was written off. Lots of things went wrong that this specialist had checked and given the ok for.
Anyway, the guy was understandably angry, turns out these inspections the specialist guy doesn't even jack the car up, just has a nose and then says £xxx please and walks off with no accountability.
He complained the guys FB page and immediately banned, turns out he was in a long line of many people with similar issues. But of course the FB only contains positive things.

Thread, or at least posts, about this on Boxa.net.

He also wasn’t supplying the written reports that was part of the fee.

I think unfortunately too many traders think they only have to do half the job.
Its as important to customers that they pick up the phone (being busy is not a unique problem to Zedshed yet seem to make it an excuse whilst 99% of other busy self employed people do manage to pick up the phone) or provide documentation, receipts, follow through on contracts made with customers, so on and so forth. The actual doing of the work is just part of it.

Not anymore IME. Everybody wants to only converse via email and text these days. I find it infuriating.
Considering we have the best communications we have ever had; speaking to people has become more difficult than ever IMO.

Fair point, maybe I meant in terms of responding to all forms of communication.

Its amazing how many younger adults are incapable or in fact terrified of making a 'phone call' and actually talking to someone. Very much a lost art of being able to have adult conversations in real time without having that ability to reflect and google and compose a response

Yes, and I can see it having other ramifications in future. That generation is heading for a very lonely and isolated existence IMO.
Mental health and a lack of social skills are just the tip of the iceberg IMHO.
Many young people I know (late teens) have absolutely no real friends; only 'internet' friends which is NOT the same thing.
