Zed ownership...1 month on

Ok so bought the zed 1 month ago today (2.5 e85) and been loving it so far, albeit the weather up here in Lancashire has been awful for most of it!

Good bits so far-
- loving the noise of that straight six engine
- first convertible and does feel special driving with the top down (with blowers on and heated seats as its so bleeding cold).
- still makes me smile seeing the car on the drive, think the z4 is one of the prettiest BMWs designed, especially with 19'm alloys.
- feels like your driving a quality product compared to some of the other convertibles we test drove (Audi TT, Mazda mx5, z3).

Issues so far..
- replaced the god-awful run flats for eagle f3s (sorted the tram lining and overly harsh ride).
- replaced rear springs as 1 was snapped
- ongoing battle against a leak in the boot ( changed the 3rd brake light and cleared the roof drains but still leaking).
- needs new discs and pads all round

Other work done..
- changed the gear knob for a black msport version and matching black handbrake gaiter
- fitted an aux lead into the basic cd headunit but unhappy with the out come so replaced for a dab JVC headunit
- changed the BMW roundels for black and carbon versions

Overall really happy with the car and the invaluable help from you folks on this forum. Looking forward to the improving weather and maybe meeting up with other owners in the Bolton/Lancs area.

Matt

Changed the head unit for a dab JVC one and it also needs some general tlc as was a bit unloved when we bought it.
I also have some concerns about the health of the roof motor as it is a bit slow doing its thing, but apart from that chuffed to bits with the car and makes a nice change to drive something just for the pleasure of it after spending all week tooling around in a van or 4x4 smelling of dogs ( partner and I have our own dog training business!)

Hi, when you changed from runflats to non runflats did you stick with the standard tyre pressures (sticker on the door opening) or did you change to M spec?

If not this this thread I just started may be of interest to you.

Water leak wise it could be the black plastic vents in the boot sides (hidden from view externally behind the bumper) had this on mine.
Or the trim that goes over the rear lights, a few reports of these leaking where they mount to the bodywork.
It could also be the drain holes being blocked and overflowing into the boot. Would explain the slow motor as well.

Mack - cheers that's interesting about the tyre pressures, I'll try 32/30 for a while on mine and report back.
Regarding the boot leak, I've had the roof drains cleared but the damage may have already been done. I'll also check the vents and the rear light trim. I've also replaced the boot brake light as that was cracked but the new one is a poor fit so may seal it with some rubber sealant.

Thanks for the help guys.

I've been battling a boot leak for 2 years. Just one of those things sadly. Worth it for the joy of Zed ownership though!!
