ZED funds are running very low!!!!!!!

Changing the whole brake setup is definitely a job for someone who knows what they're doing, personally I think JE is mad to be doing this just for cosmetic reasons as it could easily cause an accident if the bias is changed too much and, even if it's done properly, going for the largest possible rotors/calipers could make the car much harder to drive safely on the roads. Manufacturers size brakes very carefully and tailor the components to the weight/balance of the car and too much 'brake' can be just as dangerous as too little

With identical rotors and calipers all round, he may need to have a proportioning valve installed to reduce the rear breaking force or the rears will lock up far too easily - not many people with a 2l Z4 will have done this so just how much the rear brake force needs to be reduced may end up being a trial-and-error process and could end up being rather expensive

To be fair, I am not sure if Jonny is going for a more 'square' set up or not, so I shouldn't have implied he's doing 330s all round... But the points you make are still valid. Just don't want to incur Jonny's fucking wrath

I'd imagine that Jonny being Jonny he'll have someone lined up to do his BBK for him who know their stuff

Lol i will race any stock 3L next month and when i loose it wont be by much....theres a challenge.

I beg to differ buddy.

Standard 2.0 - 150bhp & 7.9 seconds to 60
Standard 3.0 - 231bhp & 5.7 seconds to 60

With all the will in the world you're not going to make up a 35% power difference with an air scoop, remap and exhaust.

Sprint chip does not produce further BHP but deliveries what power you have via a more responsive and aggressive gear change and the re-map gives the extra BHP on top, but before a RPI air scoop, K&N air filter, quad exhaust and a service has been now done to help achieve a higher BHP increase as possible, by my calculations a further 20-25bhp is possible but i will know in 4 weeks.

Not possible with a manual car Jonny, only you can make the gear change more responsive/aggressive.

Wot is MMSW Johnny boy???

My mate has sprint boaster kit on his m3, he keeps on at me to get one. They replace a switch behind the accelerator pedal, yeah. Then has a 3 step switch to manually adjust settings. He swears by it.
Is this what u have??

So how do u finance this madness???
Are u pimping from this machine....;)

You mean the BHP increase?

No this

"deliveries what power you have via a more responsive and aggressive gear change"

I finance by giving up EVERYTHING in terms of money spent, no goin out, no new clothes, no cinema, no meals out, etc etc...its very hard and unless you can cope with stress and your very organised, many many hours sourcing parts and getting info and 100% focus driven many would fail to do what i will in 14 months ( excluding sports seats as no idea when i can get hold of them )

Wow, it's a nice car and all with what you've done with it, honestly. But this is surely pure insanity! I could understand if it was a Porsche or a Ferrari or something, but a 13 year old 2.0 Z4? There must be a part of you sometimes that thinks "holy shut what am I doing!"
I do browse your various threads with interest though, certainly can't fault your dedication!

I admire the enthusiasm Jonny

But if you're going down the 3.0i or V8 route with the engine next year, won't the K&N filter, remap and exhaust all be a waste of time? The V8/3.0i/M engine surely won't be compatible with a 2.0i setup? Why not save the cash for real 3.0i power, and avoid having to throw away various parts when you do upgrade your engine? At least the 3.0i is guaranteed power increase. I know K&N, remap etc will promise you 5bhp gains each etc - but in reality, you'll need to spend £1,000s to get 20-25bhp extra from the 2.0i

Haha, my bad 8! Don't know where 13 came from.
Agree with Adam though on the engine front, you'll be lucky to see a half second gain on all those mods put together, BHP doesn't buy torque.

I like the fact of what JE is doing, it's a hobby after all and hobbies usually cost money and at the end of the day it's how much enjoyment and reward it brings, which tbh is probably worth every penny he spends.

Keep up the good work

as for the engine, putting a 3.0l in would seem totally wrong, go the N20 route :D

Many people join the forum with one size engine and end up going 3.0 or M in a few years from what I have seen... That's my plan too

However, as you've said many times it's been your baby from new, there is lots you can do and have done to make it even better, and it's a passion, so I'm with sars

Still think you must have some sort of dodgy Essex racket going on to afford it all though, especially M Style prices

Ive done other secret squiral things too  i would loose yes but not thrashed from a 3L i hope lol, im gonna race one next meet if someones up for it.

JE, I can bring the missus' 2006 Mini Cooper S if you'd like to have a competitive race :poke:

I'm only kidding. Your car is definitely one of the best looking on here. Regardless of whether it's a "waste of money" etc, you've got a car you're passionate about, and a hobby that seems to be keeping you honest

I respect the lengths you are going to, and wish I could justify spending some monies to do a few things to mine. Keep it up, I'm enjoying watching the project progress.

Good in ya!!
I feeling sorry for u now mate!
I'll treat u to shopping trip down the Sally Army and happy meal at mac Ds

Agree totally - if you're really serious about doing this, don't waste your money on interim measures, think of your ultimate goal and focus on that....

Personally, I think you're batshit crazy* but that doesn't mean that I'm really interested in seeing how you get on...

*(No offence intended and, I hope, none taken  )
