First weekend with the coupe after swapping it for the Z4MR on Friday.

Got a couple of spirited drives out in the Peaks under the belt and managed to swap out the grilles for OEM and swap the whippy for a stubby.

Jury's still out on the 230's as I think I'd prefer silver wheels so I'm going to try a set of MV2's next week before I make up my mind.

Have to say I'm very impressed with the auto box (this being the first one I've had) and there's no denying these E86's are photogenic - but I already knew that as this is my 5th coupe

I think you now need to attend z4's anonymous

Hopefully, you get many happy, faultless miles out of it. I think the coupes look awesome from the rear.

Yep  20250314_130425.jpg

I thought I was bad having had 5

I’d personally leave the twist wheels on. Easier to keep clean and not many fit them to the Z4 so looks different and suits the car imo.

You're definitely the biggest Z addict on here. :winner:

Maybe we need a poll? :scratchhead:

I think the problem with those wheels is the colour - it's hard to see what they are. They'd look better in Silver, Shadow Chrome or even a shade of Gold/Bronze.

I had a set of 295s on my previous Coupe that looked the same but were 18s and really liked them for being different, and very easy to clean. :D

Picked up the MV2's this morning and as suspected I prefer the silver wheels against the Black Sapphire paintwork so I'll get a for sale advert sorted for the style 230's.

Thanks again Jacobpt for being so accommodating and hopefully I'll see you out in the Peaks in you're Z4C some time

Congratulations. You car looks amazing.
I am finding that many wheels suit the Coupe.
I like my 108’s so will stick with them for now.

You are absolutely right in that the Coupe is so photogenic.
I have a problem myself in that I can’t stop looking at my car.
Working from home means I can go and stand in the porch and stare at it for a few minutes 😆.

I was unsure about choosing an automatic myself but I only intend to cruise and enjoy the ride in my car so in that respect I am pleased with my decision.

I’d love to own an E85 and Z4M all together but then that winning lotto ticket hasn’t been found yet.

Silver MV's look excellent!

I'm in the 'nahh' camp on the 230's.
I had them on my Coupe when I purchased and they just didnt look right, too big and chunky, and when someone mentioned it looked like a Hot Wheels toy, I couldnt stop seeing that.
But I'm in the minority as many folk love them.

The Coupe is such a hard car to match wheels for.
The MV's look excellent in your picture above but I associate them with scabby E46 320's that've been curbed to an inch of their life. And a 2 seater sports car sharing wheels with the E46 doesnt feel right for me.
108's look too american and fussy with the split rim design.
Anything too fancy or new detracts from the amazing body lines and design features.
CSL's look great but a little cliche, now?
224's look lovely but I was concerened about looking like an ///M wannabe, especially with the quad zorsts.
32's are nice if the car is lowered, lightweight, too.
216 are lovely, but heavy and many are cracked/damaged.
I settled on a set of refurbished 261m from the 135i Coupe. They looked fantastic.
Currently on a set of refurbished 405m.

All subjective and very personal to me, obviously.

Anyway, your car looks great.

Tell us, which out of the 25 have you regretted selling the most? Or have they all just merged into 1 long ownership?

Sounds like we share very similar views on wheels - is it just me or does that sound really sad

I do like the 230's in that they are very similar to the 108's but without the split rim fuss which I hate. If they had been silver I would probably have kept them. I know I could get them refurbished but it seems a shame as they are still in very good condition. Like you I think the 224's are great, indeed I've had them on both the ///M's I've owned, but they come across as playing pretend when not on an ///M.

Of late with most of the Zed's I've owned I find myself reverting to OEM options and from a wheel perspective I can't see past the MV2's for the E86. So I'll run these for a bit and see how I get on - tbh they really need a refurb but at the rate I get through cars I thought I'd run them as is for a while

In terms of the previous cars, 10 of the 26 have been Z3's and as much as I love them they aren't easy to live with unless you're hands on which I'm not. The E89 is the obvious solution to that problem but I've always found the E89's to sterile from a driving experience perspective. Which leaves the E85 / E86 and as much as I've enjoyed the top down experience the E85 affords I just prefer the looks of the coupe and find it a much more functional car for me.

All that said I think the main issue is just how versatile the Zed range is and sometimes when a deal presents itself it's hard to say no so who knows what I'll be in next

Often thought I'd like multiple cars but whenever I see someone share their collection, I always think what's the point - if you’re driving one you can't drive any of the others and it just seems such a waste to have them sat there. It's the same issue with chasing low mileage mint examples - you end up being too scared to use them for what they were intended for.

Yeah I know what you mean. I used to have more than one motorbike but one would just get used more than the other.
Luckily my wife’s a biker so we have a rule of one bike each and one car each.
Having millions in the bank would mean I would retire at my age so I could then enjoy more than the current allowance 😀
You are right about finding that unicorn car. I looked at a really low mileage e85 but I thought I’d just end up worried about using it which defeats the point for me.

You aren't alone!

I liked my 295s because they just had 5 spokes like 108s without the bolt-head corrosion issues, and mine were OE silver.

I wouldn't want to put 224s on anything other than an M, and CSLs/Reps are just everywhere. But I saw an E85 on Sunday with 107s and realised they look really good - probably the best of the OE E85 options for me.

Seen the post on your 230 wheels for sale and they look nice.
I am trying to visualise them on my Space Grey Coupe as I’m really tempted.🤔

Not sure where you are based but obviously you're welcome to come and try them on the car so you can make a more informed decision

That’s kind of you to offer. In terms of looks I think they would be brilliant.
However, after some thought I would prefer to stick with 18’s as the drive is already on the upper end of harsh. I’ve seen some dark grey and black painted MV2’s which I am tempted by.
No rush though as I’ve only just bought my car so I want to get to know it more as it’s my first Z4.

Sensible and if I was to impart any advice it would be get out and drive it rather than think what needs changing - well that was the excuse I used this morning to get out in the sun  20250318_095527.jpg

I put 107's on my first E85 when I swapped out the 108's - for me they are easily the best wheel choice for a roadster
