Hi, thinking strongly of upgrading from a 2003 3.0l Roadster to a 2007 Coupe...

Has anyone ever changed from a Z4 roadster to a Coupe and regretted it... and if so why... thanks in advance

Do you need to collect a washing machine or something? I don't think there are any other benefits.

Ha... knew this thread would get hi-jacked by roadster owners :poke:

Would like to hear the opinions of Coupe owners :P

BTW... Ireland doesn't have a summer...

Hi, thinking strongly of upgrading from a 2003 3.0l Roadster to a 2007.....................Roadster

Now thats a much better idea :driving:

Just recently made the same upgrade myself and that word 'upgrade' is correct before you roadster clan start.. I love my coupe. Even on a crisp sunny day like today i look out in the carpark and see it and don't regret it one little bit

Even my boss said to me today, you know what John that is by far the best looking car you've ever owned. And he's a big roadster fan. Read into this what you will.. Just my two pence worth!!

Do it.... You know you wanna :D

But what do you gain with a coupe? A slightly bigger boot?

I think if you upgrade from a 2.5 to a 3.0 coupe, than I can understand somewhat - you get more performance & better sound. Same with 3.0 roadster to M Coupe. But if you don't upgrade the engine with the switch to coupe I'm not sure what the gain is? The coupe is small like the roadster with the top up, without the option of putting the top down to get loads of space and the wind in your hair. I would rather get a different car that was designed as a coupe from the outset.

Wow,..... you work for Stevie Wonder :poke:

somewhere to keep your chickens though....
Oh sorry, that's coop

I think the word "upgrade" stirred up a hornets nest with regard to our Roadster friends ! I presume you meant upgrade in the sense you were buying a newer (and more powerful) Z4 model and fancied a change to a coupe as opposed to another Roadster !

I've owned both and they are both fantastic. My Z4R was my first open-top car and I scratched an itch by buying it but I've 'been there done that' now and I think the coupe is just gorgeous and tops the Roadster (with roof up or down). I also think the E85 looks a bit dated whereas the Coupe is still fresher because it's only been around for 4-5 years as opposed to 8 in the case of the Roadster.

Horses for courses - if you prefer the look of the Coupe buy one. I personally don't regret not having a roadster one bit, even when the sun shines like today. The Coupe is a much rarer beast and gets a lot more attention than my old car did.

No doubt the E89 owners will have their say as well but I think that car is largely serving a different consumer segment than the E85/E86 did.

Ha... better get in quick before i am shot... yes when i mean upgrade, i mean moving onto a newer car... don't forget i too am a roadster owner :poke:

Just weighing up my options... thanks for all the replies so far...

roadster owners, what are they like, always on the defensive. seems to me that they have some kind of inferiority complex

Roadsters are common... coupes are rarer. At my work there are 3 roadsters... only 1 coupe and I drive it

I like the fact that people ask me what the car is... sometimes they don't believe it's a BMW!!

I've even had a couple of peeps say it looks like the batmobile

For me... and this is just my opinion... the coupe is more manly. Don't want to spark any arguments though

The whole roadster coupe looks thing is pretty tiresome and just comes down to personal opinion. The coupe looks better than a roadster with the roof up, but the roadster looks better than the coupe when the roof is down - in my opinion. I think dynamically, unless you are a pretty experienced driver you won't notice the difference in handling. Obviously going from a pre-facelift to a post-facelift you're going to get those improvements too. I'd say go for it

To provide some balance, come the end or near end of summer my roadster is going to make way for a coupe. Make what you will of that :o :D

Personally if i had the choice i think i would get a coupe now

Although with the different gearing and being heavier isnt a 3.0si R techinically faster??
