WANTED Z4MR

So I feel I've worked my way up to looking for a Z4M. I've looked around for an 3.0l (i and si) example and can't find quite the car I'm looking for. I've had a good few conversations with the fine folks (👍🏻) on the forum (and some dodgy folks off the forum😬) but couldn't quite find the right fit. Got talking to a friend at work about the M and now I'm convinced...Z4M is the way to go. Man maths (and a green light with wife) have paved the way for an M. Dark colour and interior are a must, electric memory seats and xenons are key requirements (but not deal breakers dependant on the rest of the car spec) with red interior, sat nav & parking sensors bringing up the rear (see what I did there?😋). So on that note, are there any M owners out there looking to sell a well cared for example?
 
All Ms have electric seats and xenon’s, in the uk at least. They may not always be heated, although most are. Most Ms have sat nav too, unfortunately!

Yeah that one looks very clean and good original spec. Interesting wind deflector though. OP wants a dark car though w red. There was one close to me but it’s gone now I think.
 
Hi @Andrew J, depending where you are in the North East but you are welcome to drop in. I might have a 3.0si for you. Alternatively happy to show you my MR as a comparison. (Also selling but not sure it’s what you’re after).

That sounds like too good an offer to pass up!

Just be aware that if you drive the M you're probably not going to want anything else, but also bear in mind running costs are on a whole different level for an M.

I saw this one too, and it is a reasonable distance (only 60 miles) but as RMB said, it's not the colour I want.

I saw this one too. Personally I think it's a little overpriced. Yes it's low mileage but the spec is a little low (no heated seats, no nav etc.) And it's also had no remediation work (rod bearings, vanos, diff etc) so there's a fair few £'s to spend before it becomes a usable car. Feels a bit of a risk at that price. I might be reading it wrong but I feel like folks who are pricing their cars high aren't truly interested in selling their cars (broad brush stroke I know) or they've been bitten by the covid car bug and are trying to reclaim lost equity in the asset. Take PVR's car as an example, low miles, extended leather, nav, heated seats and all the rest of the spec...£13k near as dammit. Flies in the face of the prices of advertised cars by a big %. This isn't a rant or a dig or anything negative, just an observation👍🏻👍🏻.

Mine indeed was a good price, with the bearings as well as a £2500 suspension (KWV3) refresh done.

Man math forced me to spend the savings on Aero skirts and front end respray / PPF and new wheels.

At 49k I wouldn't expect any of that work to be done as it more than likely won't need it, at 80-90k maybe. Not sure what you mean by diff? Saying it's not useable until money is spent is crazy IMO, seems a pretty decent price.
Despite what you might have read, instances of these car's suddenly blowing up unless the 'big 3' are done are very rare. ;)

There's plenty of Z4MRs that have been advertised over the last year with sub 60k miles that have had the rod bearings replaced. I'm not saying that if I bought it instantly it's unusable and the bottom end will poo itself. More that as a prospective buyer with others on the market that have had the work done, there's money to be spent to have the piece of mind to enjoy it, rather than spoiling the driving experience knowing well documented issues with the car haven't been addressed yet. I'll agree to disagree on whether it's crazy or not😄.
 
Diff seals is just general maintenance hardly a case in point, where do you draw the line, want new discs/pads/suspension/fresh Insp 2/prop shaft joints/driveshafts as well? I did 90k before I sorted my diff seals and even then they were just weeping, didn't make it unusable in the slightest.

I've only had my M 10 years though, what do I know! My point was it sounds like you're looking for a bit of a unicorn with all these bits done, I've got no skin in the game though so good luck with your search. :)

I think it’s fair enough if you want to do the bearings for piece of mind, but by that same token, I don’t think you can knock down a 50k car for not having had it done. Same goes for the vanos imo. As for the diff, a bit of misting is of no real concern, and it’s one of those things that I’d only rectify if it’s really leaking or making noise.
 
@Andrew J If you wanted me to take a look at the ringwood car, I may be able to take a look at the weekend. It’s only 8 miles up the road from me.
 
My M has 42k miles on and there’s no chuffing way I’m paying to get the rod bearings done. Oil analysis is good enough for me.
Even if they have been done you have no guarantee it hasn’t had is nuts rev’d off since. If rod bearings are your kryptonite, budget for them and get them done yourself so you know where you’re at.

I wouldn't expect rod bearings to have been done before 60K miles. When I bought my MC in 2019 it had done 76K miles with 7 previous keepers so I got them replaced at 78K miles for peace of mind. While 6 of them were showing copper they still had some life in them.

When I had an Inspection 1 at 91K miles my Indy noticed a slight leak from the Diff input seal and some leakage of grease the prop-shaft joint at the Diff end, but it's now on 100K miles and still running fine (although it is currently having new kunifer rear brake pipes fitted). :(

When jobs need doing will vary widely from one car to another, like the rear brake pipes. They have lasted 19 years and 100K miles on my current Z4, but they needed replacing on my previous one at 11 years and 84K miles.

Personally I'd rather buy at a price that reflected the need for some of those jobs (which is what I did) and get them done by my trusted Indy, than pay more for a car that had them done at a garage I know nothing about.
