Z4MR Newbie

Hi all,

I've just joined this forum and am excited for two reasons:

1) I'm picking up my Z4MR in less than a week
2) I'd looking forward to connecting with other owners and getting a chance to attend some meets when the weather is nicer

No doubt you'll be hearing more from me after I get the car home. On test drive I noticed a few things which may or may not be a problem:

-Whine from the diff on lift off
-Slight creak from the rear suspension
-Notchy gear change which does improve when warm
-Roof got stuck on the catches twice, but may be due to lack of use and consistently worked fine when tested afterwards. In fact, does anyone know if the roof motors are sealed units or could benefit from a drop of oil in the bearing shaft? Would also like to know if greasing the mechanism does any good to keep things going nice and smoothly.

Apart from that and a couple of other minor issues (scuffed front spoiler, slight curbing to one of the 19'' CSL wheels), it seems to be a peach - although I didn't get underneath to check it out.

Nothing else really worries me as it has FBMWSH up to it's last service from a specialist which was an ISPII at 49k miles, and it's now just ticked over to 50,700.

In terms of interior it's great apart from the typical ring marks on the steering wheel and slightly worn gear knob - both of which I'd sort in time to get it perfect.

Cheers for reading and hope to get active ASAP!

Alex

Welcome along Alex, sounds like you've bagged a great Zed there :driving:
Throw up some pictures when you get the chance

No doubt others will be along to shed some light on your minor niggles - a drop of 3in1 oil on all the soft tops moving parts is a good idea, you will have to stop the roof halfway down to access all the linkages.

Welcome, Alex.

The knowledge on the Forum is second to none, so all your small issues will have light shone on them in no time, Mate!

Thanks! I've attached a pic of the car from the listing which you should be able to see. I know red is a popular colour but I'm a bigger fan of blue. I was a bit nervous at first as got the car for a lower price than the going rate for an example of this mileage. Fingers crossed I have no issues when driving home!

Where are you based?

Cheers for the greeting! I'm based near Stevenage, on the herts / beds border. As a long-term E36 owner I've been made aware of A1BN - a local specialist, but have never taken my car there. They seem to have a great reputation so will probably get them to give the car a once over ASAP.

Whist the old guard have briefly hijacked your welcome thread, I’ll say welcome to M ownership, any +10 year car will have some challenges... the experience of driving one is priceless

Got to agree with Jembo!

Nice looking car , even with a few issues to sort you should have a good summer :driving:
The diff whine doesn't sound good :( not the norm & would be the first thing to address if it was mine , its a 2006 & if that INS2 its just had was its first then the diff oil most likely been in 13 years & no telling in all that time if its been running with low fluid as they are prone to weeping .
Similar with the gearbox , possibly same oil since 2006 up to the ins2 & id want to see the actual receipt as we know that many garages don't fully understand exactly what a Ins1 / Ins2 entails on these cars . Is it a well known indy who did the ins2 ?

Thanks all! Put my name down for the meet in Sept - thanks for the link.

Still can't quite believe that I've bought this car. Cannot wait to drive it home (it's 2 hour drive from Brighton to mine, so will get the chance to get used to it). It's a big step up from anything I've owned in every single way, so will take some time to build up some confidence before giving it the beans :D

Welcome to the mad house. The Z4M is a properly special car for the pennies, enjoy. :driving:
