Z4MR Newbie NE England

Hello everyone. Just become the proud owner of a Z4M Roadster.

My first 'Z' car, but not my first 'M' car. First impressions have exceeded my expectations. Love the looks, the roof, the steering response, the S54 engine, the seats, the brake pedal feel, the economy on long runs

It was very keenly priced but comes with a couple of issues: noisy power steering pump when warm, and defective air-con. I'm also interested in making the suspension a little more complaint for road use. It's curremtly on OE dampers and Eibach springs.

The aircon issue is one I haven't come across before on other cars including BMWs. The system has been recently re-gassed and is leak-free. The compressor is actiivating on request, but there's no perceptible cooling. Next step is to try a more advanced diagnostic interrogation using BMW Edibias. I'm hoping it's a software related problem...

This forum has proved a useful resource and no doubt will continue to do so. Hope I can be of as much help to others in the future.

Welcome.
You shouldn't need the Air-con - just get the roof down !!

Get some pictures up too if poss and I'm sure someone will offer some advice on the aircon shortly

Hello welcome, maybe see you on our upcoming Scottish Borders weekend of runs?

Welcome to the forum. :)

What was your previous ///M ?

Oh and let me be the first to mention..

:worthless:

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll try and sort some pics at the weekend.

Number 5 - you're right about the roof! However I plan to do some Euro trips with my wife so need to cover all bases. The thought of being stuck on the Brussels ring road (or similar) in 35degree heat without air-con doesn't appeal

Pbondar - weekend trips are tricky as I work evey Saturday but I'll have a look at the dates

buzyg - 3 x M5 (e34.e39,e60) and an e36 M3. So far the Z4M reminds me of a cross between the m3 and a TVR Chimera. Which is no bad thing...

Hi and welcome.

And given your M history it's good to read it has exceeded your expectations!

I hope you can get your A/C sorted. Mine was leaking too much to re-gas, so it's just had a new condenser - ouch.

Welcome , on the compliancy side simply revert back to stock ZM springs. Of the 3 ZMs I owned the one on stock set up was by far the best all round for comfort & handling.
The AC issue? Check your car isn't in transport mode

Thanks - hoping it is something a little less expensive! Out of interest, how much did you have to pay to replace it?

Yes a set of OE springs and new dampers might be the answer. Ref Transport Mode - everything else seems to work ok. I thought there'd be other issues if that were that case?

It wasn't too bad - 2 hours labour at £130 plus £103.01 for the new condenser and £20 for coolant as the radiator had to come out for access. But sadly 20% VAT on top, so just over £300 all in.

Well worth it though this time of year!

Hopefully yours doesn't need one.

I think you'd lose other things if it was a Transport Mode issue - the heater fan won't run on faster speeds and the heated rear screen doesn't work IIRC.

Pics as requested! Apologies for the thumb in pic 3

Out for its first proper evaluation today. Expectations were exceeded. Particularly impressed with the torsional stiffness, and the ride on more challenging surfaces wasn't as harsh as I'd expected. I really like this car...

Great photos - your car looks lovely.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a Z4 Roadster is torsionally stiffer than an E46 Coupe!

Anyway it sounds like you are smitten.
