Z4MR Insp 1 serv £1200????

I used them in February, biggest load of chancers going

To be fair most of the work they said needed doing, I have since had done - just not at their prices.

They said I had a puncture and quoted £320 for a new tyre :o, puncture turned out to be a screw in the tyre which hadn't penetrated.

They even tried to stiff me on the bill,, by charging more than they quoted and agreed. Got the overriding impression they were/are geared up for business company car drivers who just say 'oh ok' and charge it to the company :(

I'd certainly never use them again.

Agreed on the comments above, the guy who served me had no idea who I was and cared even less. Tried to charge £32 for securing a bolt on the bumper. Avoid! Try park lane servicing. Monty is a very pleasant chap to deal with.

just called nine elms park lane, and quote is £910. still quite high compared to what many others are saying for insp 1 service which is £500-£600.

rang up an BMW indy (Bmer services) based in tooting and they quoted a £399 which sounds a lot less menacing. Will go Indy's if the bloody main dealers keeps taking the piss.

I think that applies to most BMW Dealers and worse is that most gets charged to leasing companies .
Hence the 4 year old vehicle deal most if not all cars are off lease by that point

Indy garages also worth calling - k&m auto techniks and birds. Bear in mind the impact on your warranty if you have one.

not every dealer - Vines for example allocate you one person and that is who you speak to. Berry were more like, 'oh he's free to deal/call etc' no continuity :(

And my car was nearly 6 years old at the time...

If its useful to anyone, so far the quotes i have received are as follows:

Main Dealers
1.Berry "Cheat"swick £1200
2. Park Lane Nine Elms £910
3. Stephen James Blackheath £950
4. Sytner Harold Wood £770

Specialist or independents
1. Big motoring world Kent £280
2. Bennett BMW Essex £360
3. Bmer Services Tooting £399
4. AMC £569

anyone used Bmer Services Tooting before?? most convenient indy for me as i live around london. am still waiting to hear back from Sytner Harold Wood to see if they will price match Bennett BMW's £360. if its below £400 then it might be worth driving all the way there to get main dealer service.

Chap from Stephen James mentioned reason for the the high price is because they need to inspect valve clearance. think its nonsense too.

I think there's another thread on this somewhere, but there's no way they can do a proper inspection 1 for much less than £500. The cost price of the parts and oil alone total to somewhere in this region.

Price for Inspection 1 varied alot up here in the North West too. Quotes from main dealer varied from £575 to £900. I used Batemans in the Lake District who were superb. I was 'introduced' to my 'M' mechanic when I arrived and he came out went over the car with me, discussed any issues I had then drove the car into the workshop bay while I was there so it would be ready for working on in the morning.

Parts for inspection 1 are oil, brake fluid (usually charged as an extra) and a couple of filters. Shims for valve clearances would be also charged as extra as they may not be required. Not much over £130 to buy parts probably less for the dealer.

It's a question of finding a dealer who will not excessively overcharge and do the job properly. If you use an indi then you may suffer slightly when you come to sell the car.

If you do use Bmer Services, let me know how you get on as they're near me

BMW servicing, a mine field. I just had an Inspection 1 on my Z4 2.5Si. Called around got some fanciful quotes. Finally K&M Autotechnics in Windsor quoted half the price of any of the BMW franchises. I questioned them, are you sure, sure sure? They said yes and explained why. Also, as a BMW specialist, their work does not compromise the validity of the extended BMW warranty. Mines 4 years old now. However, I'm not sure on the position of the BMW 3 warranty. All in, I paid £290 incl VAT and labour, for an Inspection 1, spares and additional brake pads. They even offered to pick the car up from me and drop it off. Nice guys, very knowledgeable and friendly.

Also recommend trying West 4 Autos in Chiswick.

Best of luck!

I have now booked by Car in for service with Gilbert BMW at West Ealing. The bloke I spoke sounded knowledgeable and i like how they emphasised on customer care on their website. Moreover, they are near my workplace.

Am quoted £500 inc VAT for the inspection. will report back on my findings after the next week.

Good quote. Looking forward to reading the review.

Avoid Big Motoring World like the plague, I live not to far from them, and their reputation is not good.

You definitely need to shop around....

When I needed mine Cotswold BMW were the one to reference as they charge £600 and alot of dealers would price match. I managed to get Wood BMW in Bournemouth to do it for £600....but the London dealers were not interested. £1200 is ridiculous and Berry Chiswick certainly aren't worth double, they took nearly 2 hours to do my MOT....

Pretty sure that thing where they price match indies doesnt apply to M power vehicles unfortunately. The "licence to print money" clause kicks in. :)

quick note. just got my inspection 1 service done at Gilbert BMW yesterday and have to say its great and well worth the money. speaking to gilbert himself, he seems very knowledgeable and comes across as very frank and honest. will definitely recommend!
