Z4MR colour change respray an option?

I’m struggling to find a low mileage Z4MR with the options and history I’m seeking. I thought I found the perfect one but upon viewing found out it had been stored outside with a cover for a considerable amount of time which on close inspection has killed the pint. Swirls I can sort but I found deep finger nail catching scratches all over so fear even a professional paint correction won’t be able to resolve.

Due to the above I walked away, but everything else was what I wanted so find myself contemplating buying it and getting a professional respray. I know myself it would potentially put me off buying a car if it had been resprayed as be thinking ‘had it been seriously damaged’ so worry it could dramatically reduce the value even if I write off the cost of the respray.

The only other thought is if I’m paying for a respray, I could go for a different colour such as Laguna Seca Blue, or Speed Yellow (I like my bright colours) would probably try and stick to a BMW colour even though I know Z4Ms wouldn’t have been available in them. I’ve seen an orange Z4M in the flesh and it looked amazing and definitely unique so wouldn’t want to go Orange even though I love orange.

I’d really appreciate some enthusiasts and owners thoughts on this before sinking all my cash and then some into it.

Some of my previous orange/yellow cars and Z4M i saw at a meet.

Personally if I was getting it re sprayed I’d have it done it the original colour as it came from factory, the Z4MR is/will be a classic collectible car and so hold its value more being original (IMHO) if you take plenty of photos before and keep them as proof of the reason for the re spray I’m sure that would satisfy any future purchaser.
 
I've no idea if they ever offered individual colours on the M. But if they did when it was new someone could have picked a lot of different colours for it. I always thought estoril blue would look ace on one. I really like my Imola red, but if I had the money I think it would look ace repainted in estoril blue, with the wheels painted in shadow chrome like on an E39 M5

Doesn’t really help as most won’t want to buy a wrapped car as who knows what’s underneath.

Although again you could photograph the process to alleviates buyers fears, but I’d rather go down the restart route I think if it really needs it as more durable than a wrap.
 
get it wrapped and ask the company to do a walk around video before and during the wrap. job done. Wrap done properly is literally paint like if the car is stripped down to a certain degree. Expect to pay around 2-2.5k for a wrap job in a high end film.

Is there not an e85 in a BMW individual colour on here - think the guy is overseas somewhere - looks bloody nice.

For me though - repaint origins :D
 
Honestly you need to go in with expectations in check these cars are 15 years old and even the good ones will have some kind of paint anomalies.

A low miler probably wouldn’t take my fancy really cars are better used and bought on work done and condition. Once you get to this sort of age bits and pieces need doing regardless of miles.

You could spend as much putting a lower miler right as a higher and be significantly more in the hole for it. Plus if it’s a bit higher the likelihood is you won’t be as worried about using it and enjoying it. Always a fine balance.

Resprays aren’t as easy as people think and getting a good finish and one that will last you could spend 5k easily and still not be 100% happy and then loose because it’s not an original.

Wraps not a bad idea but it’s 2.5k down the pan IMO because individual taste isn’t always shared yet OEM colours there are followers for all of them.
 
It all depends on what and where you want to go in the future with the car. If you are buying with the intention of selling on for the same or more money a few years down the line then I’d suggest a respray in the original colour. If you are buying it to enjoy and want it to look good to you then pick your colour and enjoy. Let’s be sensible here too, by the time these cars are at the “classic” status they may actually be priced off the road or, heaven forbid, we as owners could be somewhat older, infirm or worse. I’d enjoy it now and forget about the future what ifs and buts - remember all cars only need that one person who wants to buy it so it could easily sell in your chosen colour.
As mentioned earlier in the post, I have an Imola MR however, if I had the cash I’d get her changed to Sepang Bronze and enjoy!
 
If the paint is that bad and you dont particularly like the colour and are not wanting top dollar come resale paint it the colour you like.
Just remember though that colours that are in style right now may not be in a few years.
 
I'd actually say the reverse to most on here. I think if you were to a quality job respraying in a LSB or Alpine White (or even a really nice dark Porsche Green or the Green from the Z1) I think you'd make the money back when you come to sale time. I for one, would much rather have a 1 of 1 car.
