Z4MC - when does future classic become just 'classic'?

Ironically if oil does run out the values of these in good nick might go up...museum pieces of the "petrol age". I'm not hanging my hat on that though!!

I hope these achieve some degree of "sought after" status because that will make them largely depreciation proof from current pricing (as we've seen with well maintained Z3MC's). For no other reason that when I find a nice GT3 I can afford, I will have a bigger deposit!

In the meantime I drive mine at the weekend when the roads are quieter and when I'm driving for pleasure and that suits me fine. My mileage stays low, the car gets a proper workout and I fall in love with it again every weekend and remember why its special to me.

yeah i'll go with that, i think just use sparingly as an m as a daily driver would be hard work, look after them and most of all enjoy them, i think they are a very special car but probably never be a classic like maybe an e type, but saying that ,in thirty years i bet an m coupe or roadster will be pretty damn rare. :driving:

I've owned and re-built several classics over the last 30 years, most starting as 'Futures' - I'd say 25 years is about the going rate, soft tops and specialist versions get there a little quicker. Dial in a bit of competition history, or a legendary performer somewhere in the range, perhaps being featured in a film or TV show (Morse Jag, Fire up the Quattro, Harry Potter's Ford Anglebox, Trotter's independent Robin etc) and most clean ORIGINAL motors will become admired, then sought after.

Nearly 30 years ago I bought a time warp 66 Rover 2000TC for £100, kept it tidy and sold it 3 years later for £1k. Paid £1.5k for a restored Midget that needed a few weekends to fit trim etc kept it two years sold it for £2.5k, then similar profits with an MGB, several Alfa's, etc and the Stag... Then the financial model went to pot with the Zed

I Still love it, although I do find myself browsing classics from time to time (I've got a thing about Sunbeam Tigers at the moment, it will pass) :)

so which will be a classic first, roadster or coupe. i think the coupe because there are not as many

we can banter about roof on / roof off but the reality is if you want the open top experience then you forgo the looks of the coupe which no roadster owner could deny is better looking ,
i appreciate its not 2 cars in one but its stunning in the coupe form whereas the roadster does give away on the style :o hands up , , shoot me now
can see the coupe being collectable in many many years to come but the convertible ? ? ? sorry i cannot

With the optional hard top, the Roadster owner has a range of options: looking like the coupé, should he/she so choose; going with the soft top for practicality; or having the full open-air experience the coupé owners can only dream about.

The lesser coupé, on the other hand, is very much a one-trick pony, having but a single configuration.

And so it goes on....Coupe vs Roadster...!!! Don't you guys ever get bored of that one?!

:D probably will do but i'm still new to the R v C debate :D i do agree on the "one trick pony " theme 8) but its a very good trick

jbtco what a great 'drivers' list. :) Covered most bases there.

Ah the coupe v roadster debate. Bit like talking about religion. Coupe is a very pretty looking car but it is a coupe.

let me explain: :D

A tin of beans is a tin of beans, it looks nice on your shelf and has a nice metal container with a pretty label but to enjoy the product fully you have to take the lid off and consume the beans.

Neh?? :tumbleweed:
