All - Sorry I know this question must have been asked before. I have been looking at getting a good low-ish mileage Z4MC and nearly bought earlier this year but just missed out. I have just sold my A5 Cabriolet and loved the cabriolet during the summer. Im pretty sure the depreciation (if any) on a Z4MC will be very little if I buy the right one, but my head is being turned into getting a Z4M cabriolet. Does the forum think I am mad? I would only use the car dry / sunny days. Im looking to not lose any money, or at least not much when I come to sell the car so the simple question Z4MC v Z4M Cabriolet...…………...opinions please

It depends how you look at it ... if the market crashes more, the couple has more to lose !
I love my coupe, and I’ve had a 3.0si roadster previously. I definitely miss the roadster, the roof was down for me whenever possible. However the looks of the coupe and the feel of being cocooned inside it with the windows down wins it for me.

Of the two for high days and holidays I’d go for the MR, IMO there’s not 30% increased value in an MC although the market says differently, even though I’ve got one

MC’s are fetching more than an MR, There could be up to £7K difference between the two like for like, my MR had done 48K and MC 53K with some mods admittedly but it was over 30% more than I got for my MR

When I bought my Z4 (albeit not an M) I just had to have a Coupe for how it looks. And I've never owned a convertible of any description. 
Only about 1,200 M models came to the UK, and there is a pretty even split between Coupes and Roadsters but for some reason the Coupes always command higher prices. :?
If you enjoyed the top down experience with your A5 and would only be using your Z4M on special occasions it sounds like a Roadster may suit you better. Ideally you maybe ought to try and test both if you can!

Owned both, M Coupe first and currently have an M roadster.
Both have their pros the vert is a more visceral experience but the coupe is a much better looker...
Theres 6 years for me between the cars, sold the coupe at 66k in oct 2014 bought the roady Aug 2019 64k. The coupe to me seemed a better drive... tighter, more precise but that could well be down to my roady being 6 years older, my coupe wasn't on stock suspension and I would say the Z4MR needs some upgrades as im sure 14 year old sus probably isn't in the best shape. Also the M coupe was my first sports car so I look back through rose tinted glasses.
From a £ perspective if you don't want the outlay and can live without the coupes looks the MR gives you all the same but with the roof down its louder and you feel much more in touch with your surroundings and to me its arguably a better experience with a 25-30% price cut...
They are so safe from a £ perspective that its unlikely that you will see much depreciation with either.
Certainly miss the coupe tho.

Previous coupe (n52) owner... but sold it after 10 years
and replaced it with M roadster
Coupe has that unique look that will always get more attention but driving dynamics is better in the roadster with top down. Looks are subjective, but I think the roadster looks better with the top in the folded position, especially if you have the side covers. With the top up, the coupe looks better hands down. Or you can do what I did and get the best of both...

Havent had the new one out to photograph yet, needs a few things sorting to get it to a place im happy with. Those are old photos.
Ye I went away and had a few Porsches in between, had a really bad experience with one and loved the other. Just got to the point where im doing a lot of miles and the 911 (997.2 CS or a 997 Turbo) I want is just too much of a stretch and dont really want to have that much invested in a weekend car. Went round and round in circles for about a year.. kept coming back to the Z but struggled to find a well kept car that was the right combo or in my budget. Again was after another coupe, wasnt a huge fan of the roady. The one I always took a shining too M roady came up for sale at a dealer on behalf and it was pretty expensive so got in touch with the owner and managed to make a deal.
Looking forward to getting back into it but like I said few mechanical issues I need to get sorted and really needs a good detail as the paint isnt great, needs a few panels respraying and needs DA'ing. Then il be happy with it!
Crikey shame you had a bad experience with Porsche! I know what you mean re having money tied up in a weekend car I think for that reason the Z4M is a bit of a sweet spot right now, it's not silly money so it can just be popped away for sunny days

About a year ago I got my Z4MR and I have loved owning it a great deal, but I will always lust after the Z4MC. I've just been landed with a few grands worth of work needing doing, but I'm still fine keeping the car. I've never been one for loving the top down experience (my old man loves soft tops) but I realised in the last year that I have been putting the roof down a hell of a lot of times. As a smoker, I typically will always have my drivers window down, but having the roof down really lets you experience how bloody good the S54 sounds!
If it was possible to have a hardtop that could give the lines of the coupe, I would just stick it on my roadster for the winter months and then take it off for the summer.
