Z4MC v sDrive 35i DCT v TTRS

I've been flicking through some old car mags today and came across these.

The Z4MC was tested on a damp in places track, 20c. The 35i was a DCT with launch control deployed on a dry track and 21c. The TTRS was dry and 21c.

These images are taken from Autocar and the copyright belongs to them so if reproducing these little extracts causes an issue then I will remove them but the data is in the public domain already.

No denying, Z4M is probably the best sports car they have made in recent history

I must admit I am similar I have loads of old & current autocar mags I love their road tests & I always look out for any bmws they review, it's nice to make comparisons as you have, the mags do take up too much room though!

It's always nice to know the specs on cars & your knowledge is superb :thumbsup:
 
Interesting they put the z4 mc at 5.2 to 60,when its officially 5secs and other articles have put it at either 4.8 or 4.9secs...which goes to show,its important to have dry,sunny(but not too warm) conditions,and also how much it can change the results..and i know this is obvious to most of us on here;it just makes me laugh when other ppl(not on here) take certain info as set in stone,lol.

Craig - the first photo isn't very clear - it's 5.1 to 60 but you are right - everyone else seems to get about 4.8 for the Coupe and a tenth or so quicker for the Roadster.

Guess they didn't bother topping out 4th, 5th or 6th to find out the actual max speeds :)
 
Also some quote 0-60 and some 0-62 so there is a bit of variance.

Official BMW is 0-62 in 5 sec

Most have put 0-60 at 4.8

Its also very difficult to get perfect conditions, perfect gear changes dry conditions and lack of wheel spin.

There was a good example of this by auto car with the M3, GTR and 911.

It was much easier in the GTR to get consistent results because it does it for you with the trick trannys.

But the BMWs need absolutely perfect conditions with driver tyres changes etc!

All more fun for the more analogue of drivers, but people who like results you can rely on you cant write off the computer driven motors like the GTR ruins the fun if you ask me but has the bragging rights.

What I find most impressive about these results is the in-gear performance of the M. It's terrific. Yes i accept it isn't as flexible as some of the newer turbos, you need to be in the right gear more than you do say in the TT, but, when you are REALLY on it, it's just as quick, if not quicker, and it doesn't seem to run out of puff at higher speeds as well. The engine and gearbox in our cars are absolute corkers!
 
The TTRS has been quoted at 0-60 4.3 secs in some articles which did make me look for one a few months ago . Seems that figure is debatable ! Did have a bit of a challenge with one when I was in my 7 a couple of years ago driving down the A5 near Lutterworth in the rain , 4wd does help and I was very impressed .
 
Great stats IMO.... Still such a fantastic platform the stock stats are punching above its league, was really pleased to see Tom from zpost manage a 3.97 0-60 run in a stage 2 ess z4m, that's properly quick, on street tyres with a gingerly launch as well, vbox confirmed time also. Unfortunately the half shafts seem to snap at our power level so we tend to avoid these type of all out runs.

I like the 30-130 marker however as it shows you alittle more ;-)

Is the M limited to 7k revs in 4th gear? Or did they just choose to shift up?

If 136mph is achieved at 7k revs, then 155mph would be doable in 4th at 8k revs. Just wondered. Never had the car past 125.

Z4M is at 216 km/h (134 mph) at 8000 RPM in 4th gear.
