Z4MC to E92 M3 - Opinions?

Over the past 2 weeks I have found myself trawling through the BMW AUC website at E92 M3’s and I have made 2 offers of a p/x + cash on 2 different cars but the p/x value of my Z4MC in both cases was ridiculous.

Am I mad to consider getting rid of the Z4MC for an E92 M3 after a relatively short amount of time – only had the Z4MC for 6 months (purchased from Sytner) but I did have an E46 M3 before that for a year, so spent some time with the S54.

I suppose the biggest attraction for me is that V8 of course and the more modern cabin and toys – I used to own an E92 335i M Sport and I really like the cabin of the E92. However the E92 M3 is a car that is depreciating and the Z4MC is a car that is appreciating due to its rarity.

Has anyone made the jump from Z4MC to E92 M3 and what are their thoughts?

I haven't made the jump but my brother has a e92 m3 coupe. Obviously it's a hell of a lot more practical, more powerful and modern inside but to me it feels like a normal car and will not be very different to the one you used to own. If the practically is something you need go for it, otherwise i d go for something a bit different in character like the c63. That to me is more what a v8 should be - noise and torque. Far more fun day to day and you know exactly where the fuel goes everytime you hit the go pedal.

Don't the V8 is a dissapointment. You need to rev the nuts off of it to get anywhere (you are then doing ridiculous numbers) and that V mpg around town, 16 if you are lucky are just not worth it. Your 335i is a better car IMO. There is a chap on here who went from roadster to M3 and hated it. He will be along soon!
 
Surprising that both of you^ both said dont go for the V8...would of though that was the best part! It would def need to be a DCT as the gearbox suits the engine really well and its high revving nature.
 
stick with the Z4MC for a few more months until you can straight swap for one, i wouldn't pay the extra as they are currently going down in value and your car is going up!

I am here :) I do sound like a broken record sadly about the V8 M3 so I have just copied what I said from the last time this came up.....

I went Z4MR to a E92 M3 and I did regret it but I swapped a 520d daily and my Z4M for the M3 hoping it would be a do it all car(no such thing sadly as all cars have a compromise of some sort I now realise).

I found that when stuck in traffic apart from dials/seats you may as well have been in any 3 series and because max power is at 8300rpm you had to flog it to death to get any reward from it and mine was a manual and 8400rpm in third was 110mph so you get the idea of how difficult it is to enjoy on the road if you don't ignore speed limits.

I just found it frustrating in the daily grind and trying to use 414bhp wasn't easy and the fact that it returned mpg`s in the teens I just didn't think the reward you got back from it was worth it, I found the brakes to be very poor even in just heavy road use and the engine is relatively torque light and not much happens under 6000rpm.

The V8 noise is poor as standard but most think that so either mod or swap it and at low speeds the car feels quite heavy and cumbersome...in short I didn't rate it that much!

The plus points are the induction noise is lovely and addictive and the chassis/LSD are great if you fancy some sideways fun and when pushing on it does hide its weight well and my brother in law runs a E93(convertible) DCT M3 as a second car and he loves his, I appreciate I am in the minority but just sharing my personal experience of it.

That was similar to me and I had only had my Z4M five months and my brother in law let me have a go in his V8 M3 Convertible and I just wanted another V8 again so much 8) and the V8 in the M3 sounds great with the roof off in the Convertible yet you can't hear a thing in the Coupe though :(

As mattwaltersz4m says the 335i will be a more rewarding car for more of the time than V8 M3 but I do agree the engine suits the DCT gearbox far more but I wanted the manual so I went with that instead.

Get a decent test drive in one to see what you think and I test drove one back in 2008 so I think the seed was already in me and I had to get one someday but I genuinely wish I hadn't bothered.
 
You bought the zed and have owned it less than 6 months? lol go for it, sounds like you swap cars more than i swap underwear. If you don't end up liking the e92, just get rid of that and get something else. no dramas, just do it. :D

Think I will hold onto the Z4MC a little while longer...but as Hopz said - E92 M3's will only get cheaper as time goes on. You still need at least £25K for a nice facelift.

Nearly did it myself in 2014 found a cracking M3 with rare electric sunroof option,was low miles with dct,dab,edc etc etc. Was nice and smooth to drive with a big boot and 4 seats the auto box was ace but alas not the suspension,also they too offered me scrappage money for my z4 so I walked away,it didnt have a sportscar feel either. So now I have a daily 2nd car and save the z for nice days meaning I get to keep a rare iconic sportscar and save over 7 grand!! :)

Thats pretty much the exactly the same position I was in - found a nice LCI M3 with good spec but was offered literally peanuts for the Z4MC when Sytner have one for sale at 21k and 26k respectively. Decided to burn the money I was going to put ontop of the Z4MC for the M3 on mods - going to pick up some genuine CSL alloys soon :thumbsup:
