Z4mc to 997 C2S .... Mistake?

if you do i,ll buy your csls off you with a swap of my unmarked m wheels , the porsche is a great car but the rear seats are tiny !

Have you thought about an M3 CSL instead - it's the only thing I'd currently replace mine with.

Thinking about making this move as I need the rear seats.

Thoughts???
Wel, technically any car is going to be "better" than a Z4MC if you need rear seats

Sounds like a good move to me although I've looked at those rear seats before and thought they'd be no use for anyone over the age of 5.

Seats in the back of a 911 are pretty much useless unless you are a midget. If its for kids then I would seriously consider something larger. I speak from experience on this. If you need 4 seats then get something that not only seats four in comfort but has all the other benefits such as boot space, etc.

P

OP, don't buy a 911 they are naff

Only joking of course they are fantastic + 2 small rear seats

Don't need the rears on a daily basis. More to use occasionally or as the wife puts it, we should have a 'nice' car to go out together in. Space for a two year old now to I guess no more than five years old.

Not for me - would, as others have suggested, go for the M3. Will take all the todler mundungas as he/she gets older (pram, stroller etc etc) and you can have fun as well.

VvrooomM, The 911 is one of my absolute favorite cars and if servicing, parts and the actual cost of one weren't so high i'd get one in a heartbeat. I say, if you can then why the hell not? :)

With ga41 on the 911 front... love them! Friends have used 993s (TT / C2S / Targa) and one currently has a 996 C4S, all do for occassional transport.

On the 997 front - are you sold on the C2S? The C4S is quite capable in the snow and has the Turbo widebody. The narrower 2S though is the purists favourite. Either one would be great. If you are buying new check out the new GTS... likely future classic!

Another option, the chap with the C4S also runs a current shape XKR (daily hack!) which the kids love as they can see out the back. Not sure if that helps with sickness. Also, it is insanely quick! Nicely made car and more individual than the 911.

What a lovely quandry and a very supportive wife by the sound of it - she should write a guide book for wives / girlfriends :P

I keep forgetting about the amount of crap that goes along with young kids - it's not just accomodating them that becomes the issues, it's the buggies, changing mats, bags, toys, etc that all need to fit in a car too (reminds me of my old neighbour: he had one kid already with another expected so went to his VW garage to exchange his Lupo city car for something bigger like a Passat or Golf - he came home with a new Polo  and then bought a roofbox...).

Not sure a 911 would work as an only car if you had kids, but for a non daily basis like you mention I'd be seriously tempted with one - I love new 911's but it's the older ones that really do it for me

I quite agree and only £2k more than the 'S' just wish they would bring the 991 in a GTS at launch! but no

Not much different from the new M, they would not bring that out until the 35is has been out for a bit.

The GTS is a new car so I wonder if Porsche are wanting to see how the market is, be very suprised if it's not a hit - the 911 3.2 SSE was, and that was the last like this, although I don't think even that had additional BHP. Think it would sit nicely in the range though, between the Turbo and GT3, minus the price tag! Hopefully they'll add the Sport Classic to the range too - that is a great looking car (if overpriced for what it gives), like A11y, I really like the older models.

A11y, the RS 2.7 is meant to be amazing to drive, in fact it was Classic and Sports Car's greatest drivers' car (up to about 1980 IIRC).

Looking second hand around 40k which gets me a 06/56 - 07/56.

May have the chance to bag a workmates C4S 2008/08 for 45k, he bought at 6 months old at a Porsche dealer for £55k with list of £85k, it was when times were hard for premium cars but that has to be one of the bargins of the decade!!

The 997 is a wonderful car, much better to drive than the current M3, not as practical of course

Go for the 997 C2S and say hello to some of the best brakes, steering, a very flexible and powerful engine which will propel you to 175mph without to much trouble, verified by me at Elevington
