Z4MC - Silver/Grey - Gone :-(

Didn't stop me selling mine. Didn't stop mynamesnotbob selling his. Warranty can be taken out on a FBMWSH car too so I'm not sure your point has much credence.

So my point that a warranty and tracker on a car could be a differentiator doesn't have any credence because..... wait for it......you sold your car and mynamesnotbob has sold his..... Sorry, what does that prove? :poke:

Let me explain my point again. If two cars are being sold, one has warranty and a tracker and the other doesn't and they're exactly the same spec/condition, which one would you choose? :headbang:

BTW, every insurance company and I mean every insurance company I contacted, required that my Z4MC has a Tracker or equivalent or they wouldn't insure me.... Fuel for thought ? 8)

You know there are more factors than simply the make & model that dictates a tracker as prerequisite. Your location, age, etc all play a significant factor.

I'd wager 90% of M owners here (at least) do not have trackers. But we all found insurers willing to quote us. You're assumption that your situation is typical of the majority is clearly flawed. 8)

Just saw that your car had warranty when you sold it you cheeky f**ker! :D

Whether a car has a tracker or not would nat affect my decision on buying a car. Furthermore, I've never needed one to get insurance.

Neither would a warranty although I'd pay more for a car through the BMW AUC just because I'd feel it has had some form of quality check on it recently even though I realise that in reality it probably maes no difference.

I buy on condition, mileage, useful equipment fitted, service history, how I felt about the owner. In that order.

If the bottom has fallen out of performance cars, there is little option but to just take the hit. In the bigger picture, it's not a huge amount of money. Whether your car is worth £14K or £18K, you are talking about £4K. Yes, that sounds a lot to me but whatever else you buy is going to be cheap too so the hit is not as great.

The important thing is to drive what you are happy with. The previous owner of my car lost nearly £20K in just over a year of motoring. If I broke my car for spares now over 2 years later, I wouldn't be losing that much.

I remember a few years ago when the bottom dropped out of 4x4s and people said the prices would never recover, then we had a bad winter and my mate got double for his X5 than he'd been offered in the summer.

Z4MCs are very desireable cars but there are more on the market now than the market can stand hence people take the view, "well I'll sell it for what I can get". This brings the real price down further.

It's not that long ago (OK 18 months) that the dealer I bought my car from rang me asking to buy my car back off me for the full amount I'd paid 6 months earlier as silver grey with imola red was so much in demand.

I agree with pretty much most of what you said there, but I think people are missing a trick with private cars that have a warranty. We hear so often of new owners querying little niggles a few weeks after picking up, sometime due to different driving styles, sometimes just bad timing. So you've just spent £16,500 on a nice Z4MC and a few weeks later the oxygen sensor goes, or you notice that a rear spring has cracked. Not expensive per se, but irritating nontheless. The person who's bought privately and has the balance of a BMW warranty (saving £2k on AUC no doubt) then just drives to their nearest dealer and gets it fixed. The person who buys a car privately without a warranty has to go and fork out £300 or whatever just weeks into their purchase.

For me buying privately with a warranty doesn't mean a car has been looked after, but it does mean that a) the owner won't have avoided fixing anything since he/she won't have been paying and b) anything that does go wrong is covered (subject to BMW warranty conditions)

Let me give you a final example, 12 months ago one of my subs was buzzing, but I've got a warranty so I got fixed. Had I not got a warranty I wouldn't have done, and I'd have just turned the stereo down and/or lived with it.

Anyway the trouble that I've always had is that everybody wants a minter, with ultra low miles, all the spec, 12 months tax, new tyres all round and for it to be £2k less than any other advertised examples, whether with warranty or not.

But, the OPs car is clearly a very good example and I'm personally mystified why it hasn't sold.

This car looks great, and is almost exactly what I was after back in Feb – I wanted a black car as my previous car was silver grey. There's nothing wrong with this car whatsovever, the price is great. As for an AUC car at 17k, no one knows if it's as good a condition as this one: some AUCs aren't as they should be and some even have questionable history. Your location is probably hurting the sale, but mostly it's the economic climate. Can you hold on a little longer?

And did I read earlier that it's not on PH right now? If not you MUST get it on there, that was where I found mine and is exactly the right place to look for Z4MCs.

I viewed 2 BMW AUC cars before the one I bought private. You get the peace of mind of warranty but the cars
are no better looked after, in my experience they are much worse.

Last time I went they were cleaning the 3 series out side with a wet broom.

'kin hell! :o

I saw an AUC M3 back in January 2010 and the rear wheel arch was bubbling up with the start of rust. I pointed this out and said I'd want that sorted if I was to go for the car but they said they'd not be fixing that :|

I have reduced the price following this weekend as I'm getting quite into my mountain biking and unfortunately I'm obviously having to rely on my mate every time to drive us and the bikes to the forrests in either his Landy or his Rangey (which is nearly 40yrs old!!! ) and have been looking at the potential replacements. I have been in talks about trading against a B7 RS4 Avant, but tbh I'm struggling to justify paying out more for a replacement with everything going on with the upcoming wedding.
I've decided that either a B7 S4 Avant or E53 X5 will replace the Zed, and there are quite a few good examples of both with the right high spec that I want out there at the moment, but are of lesser value, some private and some with traders, so obviously they are not going to be intersted on doing a deal with the Z4.

I can keep the car, I'm not needing to sell for finacial reasons just purely for what I require from a 'daily driver' right now.

It's not on PH's anymore, I know I should stick it back up as it's always been a good selling place for me in the past, but for some reason I'd really like this car to go to an enthusiast. This is the final price drop, and as I have said previously if it doesn't go (very soon) then it will be put away in the garage and I'll pick up Mk4 Golf or soemthing to see me through the winter, can always lob a bike rack on that no bother.

I hope my location isn't putting buyers of, I can happily accomodate collection from the airport or trian station, and have done so in the past, and have also travelled the length of the country to buy previously, and from private sellers that I have picked up a good rapor with and trust the car to be as good as described and photographed prior to travelling.

Mate the Kosavans up the road cleaned the car better for £3 better than the dealer was doing in them in Birmingham.

The two Z4Ms I went to view were the same.

First was a blue roadster. Needed paint correction as the swirls were bloody awful.

Second was blue at Nottingham, but had overspray on the boot that couldn't be explained. It was fairly obvious overspray but was told it would 'buff out'. Interior put me off that one though. Loads of scratches on the interior plastics, woman's ring possibly.

I did see a crap private car as well, so doesn't say anything for either, just that dealer cars aren't the cream of the crop by any means.

Fair enough mate. You may well still find a true enthusiast from PH though :poke: :D

I too will travel the length of the country for the right car: with todays tech you can get all the info/images you need well in advance of making a journey so it's not a wasted one. I found exactly what I was after but it was in Belfast – which is quite some way from London – and after stacks of emails and images and research I bought what I think is a fantastic car. Was quite an adventure going to get the car and bringing it back as well to be honest...

Anyways, best of luck, your car seems to be one of the best available so someone will get themselves a great deal...

Agreed. I have seen some very nice AUCs earlier this year in BMW Hexagon over in East Finchley. Now they do love to price their AUCs at the top end, but to be fair the ones I've gone to see there have always looked immaculate. Top, top dollar (£25k), but they did look brand new 8)

as you can see the car still has my plate on, this WILL NOT be included in the sale and I am going to be sending away the paperwork this week to put it on retention.

No, I paid for the car in full with a bank transfer and this was the same with the previous owner. I did a full HPI check on the car prior to purchasing it to confirm this.
