Z4MC - how important is the 2 year service interval?

Hi all,

Subject to everything being in order, I put down a deposit on a Z4MC from Cooper BMW in Reading and went to see it today.

It's a 56 plate with 14K miles, 1 owner, great condition and pretty much every extra on it. RO56 *** - anyone know it?

The only thing is I checked the service book straight away and noticed that whilst it had the running in service at 1200 and a brake fluid change after 2 years, it didn't have an oil service after 2 years.

The countdown is showing 500 miles until next service so it's definitely due, but I'm just not sure how serious it is that it's gone 3 years without an oil service.

I pointed it out to the dealer who tried to play it down a bit, so I've just said I will sleep on it.

I guess the main reason I would be worried is come resale time, but apart from that I'm not overly bothered, especially if I can negotiate a deal based on the service history.

What do you guys thinK?

Cheers,

Alex

Buy it and haggle the first service in for free !

It had an oil change at the running in service so it's not all bad.

Can't see any mention in the ///M supplement about time-based servicing in lieu of mileage-base, but I always thought it was a max or 2 years between oil services.

If it's an AUC car then they are supposed to carry out any scheduled servicing due within about 4,000 miles before you pick it up. Check the tyres & brake discs too as they're quite hot on pointing out that they're below the limit when you take it to them but are less hot on actually replacing them when it's out of their pocket.

I'd be asking for it to be done before you pick it up - at no charge to you - but you won't know if they've simply stamped the book, reset the indicator and entered it onto the computer without actually doing the service.

i personally would want one with a perfect service history and schedule, i am very careful that every service is done on time and everythink is to the book, when you show a buyer that you know youve got a car thats looked after, make sure you get some money off this car but....... if it was me. id want a perfect service history, just imo.

Yes absolutely they are going to do the oil service before I pick it up within the price (at least I hope they are and not just going to stamp the book and reset the indicator!).

Tyres all look good - haven't checked the brakes as I'm not sure how to do that (I guess I need a gauge) - but too late now anyway.

I had a quick scout on the M section of the forum and someone said that as they're synthetic oils they're less likely to deteriorate with age. But it's just the resale that could scare other people off.

Might just see what I can haggle off the price...

Thanks guys.
