Not mine, just noticed on my Facebook feed (possibly a member here given the mods).

£7k sounds like a pretty reasonable ask. Cheap Z4MC for someone handy?

The advert doesn't actually say why it need a full engine rebuild though. :?

Needs a very brave buyer I think!

It's sold - I enquired but got no response.
Sitting in Redish in bits wasn't too reassuring though.

Apologies, I received circa 50 messages and only managed to respond to half. It's a sad end to Z4M ownership for me as I had fiddled with it over the years to get it to steer and handle to my preference but sometimes these things happen.

Best of luck to the new owner and I am glad to hear that they intend to rebuild it.

Sad end for the forum owner but to all owners who don't track their cars worth noting its trackday history

Ah yes, saw this up on the ramps when I was at Redish last week, James mentioned was intrigued to see what was going on with it once apart…..so what was actually wrong with it if you don’t mind me asking?
Interested to know why it needs rebuilding!

Sorry to see this for sale so cheap. Is there more to this story than a flattened follower or two?

Oh yes!

This was shot directly before strip down to reveal the block and is a healthy sounding s54 with no more top end tapping once hot.

The piston issue isn't recent nor is the source of the noise.

Thanks to Ed doe for the advice throughout this situation and to everyone else don't be concerned, the s54 is a great engine but sometimes these things happen. Has left me with needing to take a break from BMW's for a while but hoping to get back into them at some point.

Ah sorry to hear this, sounds like you just got a bit unlucky  Good luck with whatever you choose as your next venture though

Urgh, that’s a really unwelcome surprise and I can imagine why you wanted to cut your losses. Thanks for sharing the videos - Redish never fail to impress.

Sad news indeed Philip. :(

Hopefully things will work out better with whatever you go for next.

I disagree, that's a bargain for someone. Schrick cams and dlc followers and a new head gasket - call it 7k supplied and fitted, that's a 14k mcoupe read to enjoy!

EDIT: OK having watched the videos and read the first page (sorry  ) yeah that sucks a bit, shame the bottom end needs some love too. I still reckon a 2nd hand engine supplied and fitted would be circa 7k. Yes that's then an issue in terms of sorting all the known things (Vanos rod bearings etc) but I still think that's a bargain for someone to buy and sit on and slowly accumulate parts etc for an engine swap.

Or.... Someone could do what I've always desperately wanted to and bang an s65 in there!

Either way, really sorry to read of your misfortune, hope to see you back in a nice sports car soon!

Costs will be significantly less in this case Ed, bought by someone who fixes Zeds for a living so parts, at trade prices, and their time is going to add up to a very cheap ///M the end of the day.
