:)

Car delivered yesterday morning , I've done half a tank already ...I cant wait to get out again today :)

The car is fantastic , a total beast , scary fast and visually absolutely stunning .

The roads have been mostly damp yesterday so I've still to really give it the full beans but the way it delivers power is so

good....its just keeps going and going......AND THE NOISE

Okay couple of things Id like to ask , I'm calling the dealer today to inform of any niggles , a few things I've noted perhaps i dont

need to worry about ?

Gear changes - very jumpy 1st and second , I'm getting slightly smoother the more I drive it , from what I read getting the valve removed doesnt make much difference?

Hesitant throttle low revs - as per the other post live just now , nothing to worry about ?

Wobble at steering whell 70mph - had a similar issue in my exige which no-one ever rectified , learned to live with it , common
with z4m? I undertsand tyres might need balanced but should I inform BMW who sold me the car ?

Steering pulling slightly to left - again somthing I should inform dealer of ? Warrenty?

Sat Nav - Cant seem to enter a postcode anywhere ?

Appreciate any help/advice before I contact dealer.

Over all , I'm chuffed to bits ....its 6:49 ...I'm going out to clean it , then going for a blast

Welcome Jamster1!

The gear changes are something you get used to, i was driving with the clutch delay valve for several months before i removed it and didnt notice much difference.

The low rev hesitation is i presume normal as a lot of members experience it, if it's severe though it might be coils.

The steering wheel wobble is probably a combination of wheel balancing and suspension geometry being out of whack, getting them balanced and getting the suspension aligned will eradicate it.

The pulling to the left issue is also common on M's although for the life of me cant figure out why, mine does it too, if your dealer can check it out and fix it under warranty then give it a try, why not?

Sat nav... Sorry can't help, i dont use mine as BMW has no Cyprus maps.

Once again, welcome to the forum and i hope you have a long and happy relationship with your M!

Oh and :worthless:

Welcome - great choice of car - I still get real enjoyment from mine and I've had it for nearly 3 years.

The quality of the gear change is not one of the car's stand-out features compared to, say, a Honda S2000 (but then, what is). I've not had the CDV modified or removed on mine because I've not experienced any of the 'kangarooing' problems that other have reported. All the valve does is restrict the flow of fluid in the hydraulics so that engagement of the clutch plates is slowed down. Tinkering with it will not affect the quality of the shift itself (it is said that fitting an after-market knob - ooerr - of a heavier weight can make a subjective improvement to this) - it just enables you to have more say in the speed with which the clutch engages.

Sorry, I can't add anything on low rev hesitation because I've not come across it so far.

I don't have any steering wheel wobble at any speed. I was starting to notice a very small amount creeping in just before had my tyres changes a week or so ago. So I would definitely put this down to wheel balancing.

Yes, mine had a slight pull to the left too. Nothing too bad but it's definitely there. Since having my tyres changed from OEM Conti 3s to Michelin Pilot Super Sports, the pull doesn't seem as noticeable. But I've not had the chance to do many miles on the new tyres yet, so this might just be my imagination.

Sorry, I'm a pauper :D - my car doesn't have the sat nav :(

Hope you enjoy the driving experience (I love the noise too) and will also enjoy being on first-name terms with the folk that run your local petrol station.

I find the gear change suits the car, the character. Some say you have to grab it by the scruff of the neck, so in this case firm input is required when changing gear. I would never expect any high perf car to have a super easy gear change - would make it too easy :). I drove an X1 recently and it had a great gear change for the car but remember thinking it just wouldn't work in the Z4. Getting back into the Z4 the sensitive throttle and the gear change requiring a firm hand just felt so right for the beast of a car, a good solid change adding to the overall solid feel of the car.

Congrats on your purchase!

Out of the niggles you listed I would say only the wheel wobble might need some attention. This might also fix the pulling to the left but note a tiny bit of tramlining does occur with this car and sometimes this pulling to the left is a property of the road being driven on. So I would get the wheels rebalanced and get the tracking/alignment checked. If you have to pay yourself this shouldn't cost much, i pay approx £20 or so each time I get tyres changed to have this checked (Micheldever), recommended to be done approx every 18000 miles, probably less often if you do a lot of motorway miles (not sure this matters but last time I had mine checked it was still spot on after doing a lot of motorway miles vs previously driving country roads).

Enjoy!!!

Gear changes took 1000 miles for me before I stopped kangaroo-ing. No problems with low rev hesitation though, sounds like something to look at. What sort of revs are you using? And what fuel?

found this, you could try it,
" throttle system can go out of tune. Resetting it can improve throttle response and its really simple to do: turn the ignition on and wait for 10 seconds, then turn it off for 10 seconds, then turn it on again for 10, then start the engine."

The old-style nav the M has only allows the first 3-4 characters of a postcode. E.g. SP10 6.

It gets you close, then you gotta use yer head ;). (Unfortunately!)

The only think worth worrying about is the wobble at 70. I had an almost identical issue when I bought my car and it was an issue with the brake disk. Ask them to measure if the disks are true at the front. I ended up with new disks and pads all round.
