Z4M worse case mpg?

I'm trying to work out if I can afford a Z4M roadster. After a disussion with an estate agent it looks like I'm gonna need to put more away a month than I thought.

I can afford to buy the car and have briefly looked at the cost of servicing/tyres. I think this is all affordable.

I drive around 12 miles commute each way, each day. So I guess 700 miles a month?

The journey to work is very very stop start, lots of traffic lights, islands, junctions, probably drive between 20-40mph.

I know this will hammer the mpg I just don't know how much. I get between 18 and 23 at the moment in a modified TT. I don't have the lighest foot.

Simply what's the worse mpg I can expect to average on this kind of drive and I'll see if it's affordable.

Is that kind of traffic really the best environment for an M?

Don't know about the Z4M mpg, but I've gotten as low as 6 mpg in an M3

Worst case for me was 13 at the 'ring, best 30 on the motorway.

It's going to be something like 21/22 isn't it?

I probably average around 18-19mpg driving around London. That's very stop-start, with an emphasis on the stop, average speed probably more like 10mph!

Evens out to about 24mg combined cycle (roughly 50/50 London/motorway driving).

Working out the numbers it might make more financial sense to buy something dull like an 04 fietsa tdci which averages 50-60mpg and use the M on weekends, school hols etc, when I get a proper chance to stretch it's legs.

27 mpg on occasions for me around town but usually between 22 and 25 around town.

Or even a hybrid for town and the M for fun.

Worst case 9 mpg on a track, best in London traffic about 17-18mpg, but I do like to use the whole rev range even in traffic :D
I'll be driving around 100 miles each day for a year from October, so I've just bought an E46 320d to avoid piling the miles on the ///M. That will happily return >60mpg on the motorway and 40-50mpg around town, with reasonable comfort and performance too. Of course, I just have to learn how to resist the lure of the Zed each morning...

I live in London so sadly my M is very used to stop/start traffic. Once you've adjusted to the gearing and clutch it is quite happy in this type of traffic (or perhaps I'm just hardcore?). Average on the computer is 21.4 over my lifetime of ownership so I wouldn't say it's particularly worse than what you're currently driving, even if this is slightly higher than the real figure. When you do get it free on the open road it will be a lot more fun :driving:

All figures quoted above are hot hatch territory. I have had most hot hatches as well as other sports cars and the figures quoted above have made me confirm that I could afford a //M even more now. As said before my current zed is the most economical petrol car that I have owned.

what are you waiting for then? :poke:

The way I see it, expect 250 miles on a tank, costing £60. I think that's a fair assumption in town, it's sometimes better, sometimes worse.
