Z4M - where to go next?

I am getting itchy feet for a new car but as has been discussed at length, where can you go?

My parameters are:
1] Max price £25,000
2] No slower than the Z4M
3] No older than 2007
4] Max miles 40,000

All I can find are the Audi RS4 (is it any faster?), BMW M5 (running costs scary), Jaguar XKR (old man image) and BMW M3. All of these I reckon would cost at least £7,000 to get into. Am I missing any interesting cars? Not sure I want to spend that sort of money to get out of an already brilliant car :?

I suppose an SLK55 AMG could be in the mix

I'd look at one of those, but they're a very different car. More of a fast cruiser than a sports car. I do like them though.

The RS4 is a vicious brute and fearsome running costs. Single digit mpg when driven like you'd want to but sounds like god snoring on full chat. Like an M3 is "just" a 3er, it's "just" an A4 though.

A good Porsche has to be high on the list...

Porsche Cayman S and Boxster would be slower than a Z4M? And a 911 out of the price range?

Evo 9 MR 360 :) Point to point one of the fastest cars out of the box i've driven. But it depends if you're after a sports car, or a semi-practical car

You'll definitely get a 996 in budget. An early 997 too maybe. Try 911virgin.com

Definitely favour these....

As much as I love my BM and as much as I should be appreciative of owning such as nice car at 21... after Christmas I'll be looking to trade her in for a Porsche!

Are the e89 35is near that price yet?
If you can stretch to 30k i'd go for a nice 2009 GTR!

But that would make the RS4/e60 M5 running costs look puny :o

Sorry should have said: stretch to 30k and marry the daughter of a Saudi Sheikh!

You would have to be looking at 997's in the region of 40k to be a half decent replacement for a z4mc.
At that price range you'll be seeing a big hit in depreciation every year.

And they're so common.

The fact that everyone goes to Porsche is what puts me off. Also while a 3er or 5er draws the wrath of the anti BMW brigade, the Zed seems immune so far. Trouble is, the Porsche is about the only usable supercar. Nothing has made me think seriously about changing unless I go insane and buy an Aerial Atom 300. Now I've got access to a free garage I'm seriously tempted...

Caterham 7 - fast , cheap , hold their value , overtake everything with ease , never get bored with it , a classic too , take girls out for a ride and they soon start screaming for more or for utter terror as you take corners at suicidal speed !

I have had 2 x 911's..

Both 996 Carrera 2............One coupe,one convertible..

Would i have another?...........Nope..

Porsche paranoia soons sets in,the thought of everytime you open the throttle there is gonna be a rattle and a stream of oil and steam for 100 yds behind you..

Q-------£6000 rebuild..

All 996's are affected as well as early 997's.. That engine is a disaster, and a bloody expensive one at that.

Being brutally honest 996 build quality aint upto much and they are riddled with problems,997's are better but still not great..

Neither are as quick as your Z4M either in normally aspirated form.

If you have to have a Porsche....A 996 TT is the answer and is in budget, but you would be getting an old one..
