I've had a shot in the 35 and it is a completely different drive to the //M. The M has heavier steering, heavier clutch and (what seems like) a stiffer gearbox.
In the 35, I almost put my foot through the floor of the car when I depressed the clutch, it's extremely light. It has a nice exhaust note, I red-lined it, very torquey. The M is much louder, much more dramatic and a much better replacement for the S2000.
If I was you, I'd get a second hand Z4M (save yourself about £20k) and spend the rest on a bigger car.
On the other hand, have you thought about a V8 vantage? They're selling reasonably cheap (within your budget) second hand. It might not be as good a drive as the //M but it sounds and looks amazing! Plus it's an Aston!!
