Z4M vs 360 vs Gallardo

Considering upgrading my Z4M to either a 360 or Gallardo. Kinda prefer 360 looks but parked next to a Gallardo yesterday and its amazing how compact it actually is!

As Gallardos are newer, they obviously cost more still than the equivalent 360, and I'm guessing Lamborghini servicing etc may be cheaper as theyre Audi...

Has anyone driven 360 and Gallardo? For the same money, what would you say your experiences are of the differences?

I drove a 360 and would be surprised if it could be driven daily. Not a bad choice to have though!

Two completely different leagues. Personally I'd be in the Gallardo, however, how about driving the M for a couple more years and getting a Murciélago?

Running costs aren't cheap on either, which you prefer will be down entirely to personal preference.

The 360 will be a 15MPG car, servicing every 6000 miles at £500-£900 a shot. Clutch 12-15k (more like 12k on the F1), £1k. Belt service every 3 (?) years, £700 or so. They are not quite 911 rock solid-ness and if something does go it will cost you an arm and a leg, but far better than older ones. The Gallardo is £2k a service but 6k (minor) 15k (major) intervals...same sort of clutch life too. Tyres £330 each, 14-18MPG?

Not cheap.

My neighbour does....full Tubi on it too so he wakes the dead every morning. Too loud IMO, I prefer stock!

I took a pal of mine to pick up a 360 F1 last week, took me out for a spin on Sunday. In his own words "more of a hobby than a form of transport". Summed it up well, I also think a manual would have been a better option than the F1. Sounds fantastic with standard exhaust, but wouldn't have been my choice, I'll be surprised if he keeps it a year.

bit confused by this, not sure how you can compare a Z4M with a 360 or gallardo ? loving the Z4M so dont get me wrong, but the running costs on both the Gallardo and 360 will be way more than the M !

The Gallardo is my all time favourite car, having been luckily enough to have driven one, and makes the 360 look a bit dated in my opinion.

Got to agree, very dated interior wise. It all felt a bit past it's best, I was expecting much better.

Unless you buy it for an occasional run out at weekends and sunny days running either of these will be a very costly exercise. Gallardo would be my choice, it's current and better screwed together.

Ok, so I've been looking a little more into this. My choices overall are 360, Gallardo, R8 or a magnum Cobra replica. The only "day to day" cars are the Gallardo and R8 so I would sell the M - if it were either of the other two, I'd keep the M.

360's do need belts servicing every 3000 miles or so and they are an expensive pig to fix if something goes wrong (I'm leaning toward a manual shifting coupe for the reason there is less that could potentially go wrong). Gallardos by comparison have chains (no belt service) and only need a service every 6000 miles. The R8 seems like basically a cheaper Gallardo but service wise probably cheaper - whilst I know its a fantastic car, I can't get away from the fact that the interior reminds me too much of "company car". Also, the Gallardo is slightly more current than the 360 but they are more expensive for a similarly good example as they're newer.

One thing that is starting to bug me about the M is the plastickyness of the interior. I have considered getting alcantara trimmed etc for for the cost of £2k that you don't make back on resale, I figure I'll let someone else take the depriciation and buy a car that already has this and/or other upgrades. While the M is a great car, I do feel that in a way, BMW just took the M3 engine and put it in a Z4 without that much consideration about how they could make it feel that much more special and for a £40k list price car, the interior is a little plasticky in a way that a creme 360 interior isn't.

This kinda decision does have to be a heart over head thing in some ways, but this was all answered for me when I sawa 360 over the weekend. They always make my heart stop in a way a Gallardo or R8 never does. They have that rarity edge that makes them seem all the more special in a way 911s never have for me. They are slightly older in terms of styling, but they're still stunning!! My only reservation is that its 2.5x the price and the power is almost the same as the M and that it may also bring bad attention in a way that a more subtle car such as the M doesn't... so its really a choice between that and a Cobra... Has anyone driven the 360? How did you find it compared to the M performance wise?

you say the 360 makes your heart skip a beat ? but then question it perfomance wise against a z4m ?. i think the problem is that your trying to compare performance when the overall ownership experience seems to be far more important.

i would rather have something with a bit more soul (that will be the 360) than something that was actually slightly faster but was completely soul less.

still not sure how you can compare a 360, gallardo and a z4m though ?. good look with whatever you choose !

The big question...What do you want this car to do?

If you want a driving experince buy a trailer and a radical/catheram. Start doing track days and really learning driving it. I was in a catherham last week on track and its a different level. Grin factor 10!!! A guy in his new Skyline looked positively bored as couldnt exploit all the power of an over-competant machine. This direction will give you a LOT of satisfaction.

If you want a day to day car that will thrill you when the rare chance of a gap in traffic arises, keep the M. Its not a bad car.

After these two factors all your left with is the 'WANT' factor. Now the R8 and Gallardo arent setting your world on fire leaving.....A Ferrari, which will do that in spades, even looking at it through the living room window would be fíng awesome.

Will it live up to expectation?? Doubt it. You will be scared to take it on track in case a numpty in a clio hits you. Scared to leave outside ANYWHERE but home or a friends drive. Worried something is going to go wrong with it. Always thinking about the resale because now you've bought it, youve 'dunnit' and its time to move on before the backend twitches at the wrong time. You'll be extremely satisfied that you own a prancing horse but will it be much fun?

I dont own cars i cant afford to lose, which in a way is a bit more liberating knowing if it was a steaming wreck in the ditch i wouldnt be crying about it. I had a friend that drove an Exige and sold it to buy an old saab 900, hes never been happier. He leaves it at Tesco without worrying about it and enjoys just ragging it around for the fun of it. I know its not the same but you can understand the analogy.
