z4M to E93 m3

Just wondering if anyone has gone from a Z4M to a E93 M3 and their thoughts?
One thing that you will notice straight away after the Z4M is how much better the ride and suspension is in the M3. I found the chassis/suspension pretty moody in the Z4M and it didn't feel especially resolved to me. Whereas the M3 had the best chassis of any car that I've had.

I test drove all 3 versions of the E9* M3, and decided on a B7 RS4 Saloon, and couldn't be happier with my decision, especially as it's a daily. Might have to change my forum name...

Haha I can't argue with that, they're amazing. I daily my B7 RS4 saloon through the winter, never let me down yet

Got any pics?

Latest pic from the weekend. Did you not sell yours in the end then? I saw it for sale here and on the RS forum.

This was my collection day for the M3 back in 2013.

Looks lovely,
The main reason I'm thinking about changing is due to the crashy suspension with the Z4, Im guessing the engine just needs working in the same way the S54 does?

Thanks.

Yes and the engines are similar to be fair. The S65 V8 is epic at 6000rpm plus but I do think that the S54 feels slightly livelier lower down the revs. My M3 was a manual but I actually think that the DCT is a better fit to the engine, and the DCT makes the best of the engines characteristics.

I think that the S65 V8 would be awesome in something that only weighs around 1200kg...but obviously that is an unrealistic ask though. At 100mph plus the M3 really comes into its own and I saw 165mph on the clock once. :driving:

Just to ensure the Avant is represented here too, this is mine :driving: gutted back boxes and a GruppeM intake make it sound absolutely ridiculous

That is lovely, we almost have enough of them here to rival the 911 Converts!

Whereas I like my RS4 enough to keep it in the UK despite living in another hemisphere!

Have an e92 Comp and it's all round better than the z4m although I like the lower seating position of the roadster which adds to the experience. But the M3 sounds, pulls and steers better.

The e93 however felt much more wallowy and I just didn't gel with it. But I've never liked the idea of a 4 door m3, it should be reserved for m5 territory imo.

It’s funny you say that

I have always been a coupe fan, the M3 2 door has always looked better in every generation

Until the F series

The M3 looks so much nicer than the M4

I think it’s the reallly long rear 1/4 on the M4 that looks odd .
The M3 looks a lot more squat, aggressive and gels better on side profile

Weird

Could not agree more although I think the E92 isn't a good looking car either the for the same reason the rear doesn't do it for me has like a stretched characteristic, the E90 M3 on the other hand!

Wouldn’t recommend Z4M to E93 M3.

They are too heavy and are quite ‘boaty’ when compared to the Z4’s chassis.

A better car to upgrade to would be the F83 M4 Convertible. Again a heavier car but has a lot more low down torque, which makes it easier for pottering around town and driving fast on B roads. The sound of its twin-turbo S55 engine gets a lot of stick by forum members and owner clubs and doesn’t sound great on YouTube videos. However in real life, when paired up with the likes of an M Performance or Akrapovic exhaust they sound pretty good under full load and have a rasp characteristic that is similar to that of the S54 engine.

The M4 is also a newer car and isn’t plagued with the same issues as that of the E9XM platform, although there have been some cases of turbo seals failure and crank hub failure with cars of 30,000 miles or more. Nevertheless cases are few and if you buy with a warranty, you won’t have to worry about these issues.

Not to mention that prices have dropped significantly and there are some great deals out there.

Once lockdown is over you are best writing a list of potential cars and having a test drive of all of them before making any decisions. However you may find that after your drives you may actually want to keep your Z4M.

Good luck

Ewwww.

I dunno...

That S55 is turning into a right ball of crap.....

Turbo's-Smoking and rattling.
Cam ledge wear and misalignment .
Cam wear
Hydraulic lifter failures
Crank hub failures

Another S derived failure IMHO..
