Z4M Standard ride

Before I bought my Z4M I looked at the info and the vids etc.

One thing that I was expecting was the ride to be harsh and firm after that Clarkson review video. I would say compared to the last car I had in the same sorta class, it is nothing like that.

The stock suspension is quite good and never makes me feel uncomfortable at all. I was also expecting, from previous experience, that being a roadster I would feel the chassis flex more, but I don't which is pleasantly surprising

I know Top gear is really a comedy program but surely Clarkson should get simple things right. Don't get me wrong I like watching the guy, he is really funny :D

Didn't JC drive the 3.0SE Zed which would have had R/flats fitted hence the firm ride, but the M uses Non R/flat tyres hence the improved ride.

I'm not sure. I'll check it out again. For some reason it stuck in my mind so I assumed it was the M.

Nope JC test drove the m and said it was hard and harsh ride, and in my opinion he is talking rubbish! I grant its stiff but not crashy or harsh.
I looked at buying a cayman s before settling on my z4m, the reason i looked at the porker was because of all the bad press the z4m got on poor ride quality.
Driven back to back the porker is more compliant than the z4m i admit, but thats the whole reason why i went for the z, the z is rather nervous and twitchy at the tail and some what an absolute hooligan, were as the porker is sure footed and well planted which for me is rather numb. :o

There you go.

Totally don't agree with most of what he talks about, but guess everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Ok. I only saw the vid. So he likes the Z4M roadster though but not the coupe.

He is the man after all! Poor coupe drivers :| HaHa :fuelfire:

No need to bite hard, had to be said on this forum. I like both really and he does talk nonsense but funny nonsense.

Check out this Top Gear videos
Hammond testing the Z4M vs Boxter S... I think this is one is a good Top Gear review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FTcr2IFeg0

This Fift Gear review is also a fair review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNMCCpBX9lM
When I saw these videos I was thinking "wow the Z4M sounds like something for me"... Then I did a test drive and I wanted one :)

By the way; Top Gear doesn't do real car reviews anymore... It's more a funny entertainment show instead of real car opinions. If you want useful reviews, you better of buying EVO magazine.

JC quotes "I reviewed the soft top a few weeks ago and thought it quite comfy"
"The first problem is that its back end appears to be styled by someone who wasn't concentrating"
"On reasonably smooth roads it feels like a 'normal' Z4M, only with a hard roof and an ugly backside"
"If you want this sort of car the Porsche Gayman is an obvious rival. It goes harder but is deeply embarassing to be seen in.
So what i'd to is buy the soft top Z4M instead" :D

So now all you coupe owners can shut up! :poke: :P

I read so many bad reviews of the Z4M coupe, things like, its to tail happy, its too brutal with the power, its too stiff etc.

The fact I bought one should speak for itself, but in complete honesty, I have never found any of the so called negatives described in the reviews to be a bad thing. I LOVE that the back end steps out with the trac control on, just enough to give you a laugh but not enough to spin the car. The power delivery is smooth, pregressive and predictable and as for the stiffness, well, i've never noticed it being overly stiff and love the way the car holds itself. I would say that it doens't like potholes and speed bumps, but neither do I.

I myself think and several people who have been in my car agree, that the Z4M feels a lot like the Jag XK/R. Its a little harder, but the driving position, power delivery, view out front etc, all similar. Cant be a bad thing!

My main issue with the car is the addictive noise and power... it will surely be bye bye license at some stage :driving:

I didn't find any of the negatives a bother for me either.

I didn't like the standard springs, so put the Eibach pro kit on for a couple hundred quid and it makes a nicer ride, softens the bumps a bit and makes it slightly stiffer.

I know Clarkson says things for effect sometimes but I usually agree about his views on the looks of cars however saying that the Z4 coupe is ugly is really beyond me. I can understand his dissing the ride on the M coupe it's not to everyone's taste but not the looks.

Now I'm embarrassed to own a roadster.

But then given his recent alleged extra-marital activities, maybe its a typo and he meant 'roaster'? :)

It's the shorter wheelbase. Chassis flex is on the roadster like most coupe's, and the coupe is double as stiff. Thats' the advantage when the car is designed to be a roadster, and not a coupe after which they cut off the roof (M3 e.a.).

Handling and 'ride' are not the same thing.

I'd take the e46 M3 for the ride, but the CSL for handling, and put the Z4M in the middle.
