Afternoon,

I have always wondered what the BMW Z8 would be like compared to the newer BMW Z4M?
Has anyone compared both cars? or owned both?

nice car but LHD only is a prob IMHO

No it's not. :driving:

Z8 all the way. No, I've never driven either, but my dealer had one in the showroom, new, back in 2003. OH, MY.

most have low miles and are on market crica 100K, good bit above the 80-odd K when new. Not really a comparison IMHO.

Nice one on ebay if you have £85k, bargain

Not sure about all that red though.

If i had £85k i can think of other marques i would prefer more.

Well, the Z8 has 400bhp on tap from the E39 M5's V8 so it'll shift once it's on the move (i.e. quicker than the Z4M), but it'll feel porky next to the Z4 and be slower off the mark.

I like the Z8, but I've never really loved it in the way some do. It looked flash when it came out, but the interior especially looks low-rent compared to more modern offerings.

I think that's the problem now; it's become a bit of a collector's item. If they were £40k then it'd be a tempting proposition, but when you can have an M6 Cab, a used 997 Turbo or an AMV8 for the same money it's a lot less attractive. Especially considering the LHD.

That looks a lovely example.......... Dont think i would get one for £85

I remember kept walking past a BMW dealership in Barcelona back when they was released, its a stunning car to look at.

I've never really liked the design of the Z8, don't get me wrong, I don't mean it's ugly, far from it, it's just trying to be a retro design too much, making it lack its own personality.

M all the way. for 1/4 the price of Z8 u get a bloody good car and its awesome. for £85k I would buy myself a MC and MR and put a deposit on a new house.

I like the Z8 and all, but I'd sooner have a matching pair of Z4Ms, coupe and roadster, or blow the money shoehorning an S65 into a Z4MC just to see if it could be done.

Well the S85 V10 fits so i would think the S65 V8 wouldnt be a problem. How much would such a conversion go for? I'd be seriously tempted seeing as they said it's more compact and lighter than the S54 we have...

On a similar note some of the Z4MC's racing in endurance races in Europe use tuned S62 V8's (same as in the Z8 and E39 M5) instead of the standard S54 six.

Why not have a Z4M and a Z8. While you are at it add a Z3M and a Z1 to the collection. All in titanium silver. Now there is a collection!
