Z4M or 370Z?

I may be in possition to replace my 2005 2.5 SE soon and am considering either replacing with a newer Z4M or a 370Z.

I like the Z4 and the fact it's a BMW (helps residuals) also know the engine on the Z4M is awesome but it would be nice to have a completely new car but not sure if i will be happy with a Nisan? I know I need to test drive both but would be interested in anyone that has driven a 370Z and could pass on their comments

Nissan looks pretty shocking IMO

But im with u on thinking a z4m is too sameysamey
I'd get an m3 convertible if i wanted a change from a zed
Or one of them audi tt's with the ermm...not the uber fast one but the middle of the road one??
Nice interior on them bad boys

the audi tt 180 is my week day drive and iv'e got to say its a really nice car,the ///m only comes out at the weekends.imo the choice is simple its got to be the ///m just for the rarity value.

I'm just not a fan of the 370z styling - looks "over-styled" IMO, too fussy and not a coherent design. I know we're biased over here being Z4 owners, but the Z4M in coupe form is a stunning looking car. The Nissan's no comparison in looks. Supposed to be a great driver's car though.

I've not driven one but really like the look of the 370. I've heard of a few 350 owners complaining about build quality. Not sure if that's improved with the 370. Certainly seems to get good reviews in mags.

Are you sure? It's smaller, lighter and has more power.

I've had two 350s and I love them, but the 370 hasn't done too well in reviews, is slower and has worse fuel economy.

Sorry I mean it's slower and worse MPG than the Z4M (not the 350).

You already know all about the ///M so no need for any info on that.

The 370Z looks great, I've now seen blue, yellow, white and silver in the "flesh". The silver is quite understated, the white looked amazing. It's a great looker.

In terms of performance I don't think you'd find the 370 lacking, the only thing is that the engine can get quite gruff at higher revs. I found the seats were lacking a bit of support under the thighs, no adjustable base like the M seats. Interior is nice otherwise, loads of standard kit.

Have a good look on http://www.the370z.com/ to get better idea on colours, etc.

thanks for all the feedback, so no one actually driven one then?

I was ment to test drive one on Saturday through the Nisan website but when I rang up the dealer they didn't have a 370 in stock and knew nothing about the booking???????????????

So the general consensus is the Z4M is faster and better fuel economy? I know it's lighter and has a smaller engine. I wonder how they compare in the handling department.

The ZMC does look like a future classic and reminds me of a 60's racing coupe, something like an Aston Martin Zagato or something similar which looks really cool. If I went for an M I'm not sure if I would go coupe or a roadster, but either way i guess the newest ones would be an '08 plate? I really wanted to try and get something no more than 2 years old (if I can afford it)

Breaker has driven one. They only offered me two mins around the car park so I declined, wanted a drive on my own.

I had a quick test drive in one - you have to use the revs to get it going - auto syncro blip is fun - especially with a nervous salesman in the passenger seat and a nice roundabout at the end of a 70Mph road   - ohh and the brakes work well

Build quality is way better than the 350z I quite liked the interior and it was actually a pleasant place to sit unlike the 350. The sat nav looks a bit plasticy and looks like it has a qwerty keyboard but the rest is okay. The seats are good drivers is different to passenger.

Seemed to drive okay but didn't get much chance to chuck it about on any twisty bits. Engine noise is not very good seems strained at higher revs too sounds a bit gruff when pressing on. They are apparently a bit sensitive to ambient temps when it comes to oil and require some nissan ester based stuff because of the variable valve based throttle system which is quite expensive I think. They might have fixed that with an oil cooler by now though I know nissan were thinking about adding one. Whether thats an issue in our cooler climate I'm not sure but they released it in the states before here and some of the guys there had issues.

They are still quite rare on the roads I think only seen 2 up here in the frozen north around newcastle - I prefer the Z4MC though and I haven't seen another yet! (cue shed loads tomorrow)

I actually ordered a new 370 before i got my Z4m. But the night after i though to myself, it's a datsun, i will pay 33k for it and in 3 years it will be worth 10k, next day i test drove a Z4m and it was love at first key turn. cancelled the 370z and bought the z4m for 22k, a year in to ownership and i have never regreted the decision.

There are definitely some 58s and a few 09s. I'm pretty sure a forum member is selling his 09 Roadster at the moment - should be in the for sale section and also on Pistonheads.

I had one for a day and really liked it (see the last few posts of that link). Hard choice to be honest but I'd probably go more with the 370Z as you have already owned a Z4 that's similar in style to an M.
I think petrol use wise the MPG will be around the same as an M though and I'm not sure what band tax bracket they are in either (due to emissions).

I'm really pleased with my 35i, but now and then I do wonder if I should have gone with the 370Z as something different.

I still stand by my opinion that at speed the 370Z is more entertaining to drive than my 35i even though I'm well pleased with the 35i.

By the way, white still looks great but I saw a gunmetal grey one the other day and looked well mean! Get the tan interior also.

Have you tried a new Z4 as that is a completely new car to the 1st gen Z4!

Thanks for that Breaker, and thanks for the link. A new Z4 35i is too expensive for me and not sure if it would be too much of a GT rather than a sports care, mind you the economy figures look tempting.

Just ned to arrange a test drive :driving:
