Z4M on winter tyres.

Have just put my new winters on and been out for a quick blast.
Should have remembered about the slippiness of new tyres :oops: :oops: .
Pulled out the top of our street with a good armfull of opposite lock much to my surprise :) :lol: .
Took the car to a very deserted road that is close by and switched off the dsc and had a wee play to get
some of the newness off them.The only thing i can mention so far is the car moves about a good bit more but
i suppose that is down to the depth of the new tread and the soft compound.Nearly forgot to say i bought vredestein wintrac extremes from mytyres.
 
I've got the same winter tyres and to be honest I think you've put them on too early. From last winters experience the Vredesteins were only at their best at low temperatures and certainly well below what we are experiencing just now. They were fantastic in the snow and good in sub zero conditions but as the weather started to improve they were a real handful and needed a bit of respect. The newness will definitely contribute to the lack of traction you've described but IMO you won't get the benefit of them until into November.
 
getting mine fitted on the spare wheels on Monday, I won't be fitting them till it gets colder though. I heard they wear quicker if it's too warm.

I've gone for the same tyres though, and it took a while to get hold of them.
 
Have you got them on the same wheel/tyre sizes? ie wider rears than fronts?

They are only better than summer tyres below 7 deg C, and are significantly worse than summer tyres above 10 deg C - you shouldn't have them on now

(Also because they are a very soft compound if you drive them when it's 18 degrees you'll chew them up in 2000 miles)

Take them off!!!!
 
gonna say... it's 17deg here today.. id be admiring them in the garage for when it's a bit chillier :thumbsup:

Not sure if the size question was to me, but I'll answer it in my case anyway. I have the a set of original z4m alloys which I am using as winter wheels, the sizes are as original at 255 rear and 225 front.
 
Looking at a Z4M this weekend. It has 19" CSLs but also some 18 M wheels.

I was gonna try to come to a deal with the 18s as well and use them for winter. Can you go smaller still and fit 17s to the Z4m?

17's should fit as I know TireRack sell's 17 inch wheels for the ///M.
 
I am taking my wheels back off this morning.
The weather seems to be picking up a bit for the weekend.
I have a spare set of z4m alloys that i bought off ebay.
So i take it that i will be better off keeping them till it gets really cold ,maybe into november?
 
With this talk of winter tyres, any bets we'll have a mild winter this year ? :).
Yes, I'm looking at getting some winter tyres also and trying to keep in my current tyres(worn but legal) on for as long as possible, while hoping we don't have any torrential rain. Rears are on 3mm, fronts 2 to 3 (4 in the midle). Or might just think 'sod it' and by a second car in December shod with smaller winter tyres.
I was looking at the Dunlop 3D winters or COnti 780 front and 820 rears (or something like that)
