Z4M - I understand now!

Hi All
First off apologies in my late post, after a couple of months ownership of my Z4M I have to say - I totally get it! The car is amazing, the feel the sound from the engine through the gears the look - I love it!!
My car is an 07 in Interlagos Blue Coupe and was purchased from a forum member (nice guy!) who gave me the option of Renewing the BMW warranty, this was a very wise move as when I test drove the car I felt the gear change was excessively stiff and resigned myself to replacing the clutch upon ownership.
First week of ownership I booked the car in at BMW to have the clutch / gear changes checked out, imagine surprise when they said the gearbox was u/s!! For a moment I had that "what have I bought" sinking feeling  and then the voice on the other end of the phone confirmed that the warranty would cover this but I would pay for the clutch :) OMG what a relief, for a second I thought my life had ended!! I am please to report initially the new gearbox was a little tight but after about 500 miles the change is fantastic, silk smooth.
Looking through the service history given to me by the previous owner I noticed it was booked in for "check engine noise" I have to say only looking at 2 cars before I purchased this one I also felt the engine sounded quite tap petty but BMW assured the previous owner all was good. After listening to a mates M3 one Sunday I decided to remove the valve cover and check the valve clearances myself, surprisingly I found several that were out of spec and quite loose, rather than ordering the shims seperatly I decided to buy the BMW shim kit which bought tears to my eyes! I was surprised how straightforward it was to do this job I suppose it helped that I was a techi once upon a time! The result has amazed me, it's transformed the sound and responsiveness of the engine.
I am hoping for many more miles of smiles now!!

respect for doing shims yourself!! you going to love this forum as you clearly the hands on type!! Awesome first post, now get some pics of up the car for gods sake.... my shift feels alittle stiff at the moment, I'm hoping the fluid change thats due will ease it off alittle, the car has been in my ownership since 900 miles and currently only has 12k miles. Welcome to the forum and you have a great car thats slowly creeping up in value, a great position to be in!! White cover is off, check the vanos hub bolt Tq and the hub tabs as these snap off causing issues!
