Hi All
First off apologies in my late post, after a couple of months ownership of my Z4M I have to say - I totally get it! The car is amazing, the feel the sound from the engine through the gears the look - I love it!!
My car is an 07 in Interlagos Blue Coupe and was purchased from a forum member (nice guy!) who gave me the option of Renewing the BMW warranty, this was a very wise move as when I test drove the car I felt the gear change was excessively stiff and resigned myself to replacing the clutch upon ownership.
First week of ownership I booked the car in at BMW to have the clutch / gear changes checked out, imagine surprise when they said the gearbox was u/s!! For a moment I had that "what have I bought" sinking feeling
and then the voice on the other end of the phone confirmed that the warranty would cover this but I would pay for the clutch
OMG what a relief, for a second I thought my life had ended!! I am please to report initially the new gearbox was a little tight but after about 500 miles the change is fantastic, silk smooth.
Looking through the service history given to me by the previous owner I noticed it was booked in for "check engine noise" I have to say only looking at 2 cars before I purchased this one I also felt the engine sounded quite tap petty but BMW assured the previous owner all was good. After listening to a mates M3 one Sunday I decided to remove the valve cover and check the valve clearances myself, surprisingly I found several that were out of spec and quite loose, rather than ordering the shims seperatly I decided to buy the BMW shim kit which bought tears to my eyes! I was surprised how straightforward it was to do this job I suppose it helped that I was a techi once upon a time! The result has amazed me, it's transformed the sound and responsiveness of the engine.
I am hoping for many more miles of smiles now!!
