Z4M Front Fang Advice

Hello Msters.

If the weather ever breaks I'll be swapping out my front bumper for my 'just about finished' Z4M Bumper.
My question ..
I understand that the fangs are most prone to road damage.
And I have seen that some install abrasive resistant metal plates under the fangs.
I'm conflicted about this mod because I imagine these plates are just one more thing to get caught on a speed bump etc.

So those of you with Z4M Bumpers ..
How prone are they to unexpected damage ?
Should I consider an abrasive plate or is that just overkill ?

I think that the fangs sit a bit higher than the pre-facelift bumper so you should be OK as they are.
 
In my experience the fangs catch if you're gunning it through a corner that's in a valley, if you're turning sharp into a driveway/car park entrance and the obvious massive speed humps installed in some areas. I tried installing protection plates but the ones I made didn't poke out from underneath the bumper far enough to protect the leading edge so were pretty much useless and now I have some damage that I'm not going to take care of because its just going to happen again.

As a side note, the M bumper is not as bad at catching on things as the Alfa Romeo Mito. That car has some weird problems that cause the fangs to catch on pretty much a level surface... Stupid designers!
 
I have fang guards on mine... Protected them to some degree, the worst for me are multi storey slopes.

Although i clipped a curb at speed and fang guard or no fang guard there was no saving it!

I had problems with catching my fangs reversing out of a drive to the extent that it pulled off one corner of the bumper. I fitted a new bumper with Rpi skid plates a couple of years ago and the fangs remain perfect. I definitely recommend fitting them.
