Spotted this for sale on eBay.

Write up says cat D repaired...

This just reinforces why I would never touch a Cat D write off or indeed any write off.

Firstly It's obvious from the pics that the headlights arent xenon (unless there are xenon's available with black inners that I'm not aware of). Needless to say it should have been repaired to the factory spec with silver inners. Secondly the bumper is clearly one from the US as it has the nasty side reflectors in them.

My thoughts for what they're worth are if its been repaired in such a way that the stuff visible is wrong then what other corners have been cut and what else has been scrimped on..

Rant over..

Yes, someone has bought for buttons and repaired badly...

Who knows what else is wrong with it

You can get xenons with black inners but totally agree if they can't get the part numbers right for the headlights whatever has the wrong part numbers? N52 engine instead of the s54 maybe

I'd be interested in this if it wasn't black.

The fact it's on for £10,000 no reserve so he would accept that amount, at least £4,000 cheaper than any other car in the classifieds, particularly with that mileage and spec.

I agree the black lights and US grill doesnt give you much confidence. But ebay items must be advertised correctly, if he says its been repaired properly then id want a thorough inspection to make sure that's the case. Also double check with VCAR, HPI and make sure everything adds up.

If you think its that cheap and a good buy you can have it wrapped any colour you want for around a grand :D

Sorry, I hear what you are saying but I personally wouldnt touch it. Rather have one with a few more miles on that's honest and well looked after / cared for example. The fact its so cheap is because its registered Cat D. You would only suffer when selling on in the future IMO.

I think if I had something like this I would be questioning every little noise and every little quirk which I think would ruin the experience of owning one somewhat..

This one would be up my street if I was in the market for one.. Absoultely stunning and a Bargain at that!!

U get what u pay for. Mine's not a //M, but had the first MoT today in my ownership.

No cautions, no advisories, no observations other than the guy saying it'd be ready in an extra two hours ... with most of the fuel missing...

Knowing how many electric gizmos & how today's cars are designed to crumple, agree with the org post as consider my life invaluable, let alone 4k

I bought my car as a cat d and it just flew through mot, after a year nearly owning it. I paid very little for it, and there's no squeaks or rattles. Has been up on a ramp for four wheel align and no chassis damage seen. Agreed id get a lot less come resale and will take longer to find a buyer but considering what I paid I don't mind. Declared to ins co and no increase in premium either. To me some of the incidents I've seen on here re vandalism and minor accidents, if reported to insurance could very well result in an assesor writing off the car if he d had a bad day.

Buyer beware is my advice but wouldn't rule it out. As for American bumper, if the supports etc are straight with no crumpling its a cheap fix to get rid.

I'm not linked to the sale in anyway but it may be a real bargain for someone!

Edit: agree with you jdm that Ik s car makes much more sense though. Beautiful motor!
