z4m Exhaust modification

I'm going to pop over and see OP to get this measured up for anyone interested in it on a Si after he kindly offered for me to come see his set up and will report back my findings.

Once I have the template measurements we may be able to see about group buy / deal as once the machine is set up it would be more cost effective? All credit of course goes to OP . But am 100% going to do it... am toying with 1" but will check out what 3/4 inch sounds like in the flesh!

If there is a deal to be had am sure any business would be happy to take this simple line of work on but will need to check with them.

Thanks again Nick

Report coming soon!! for Si , SE or anyone else as basically this is universal to any backbox

I've been in contact with Warren Engineering, they are making me up a couple to take to my exhaust place on Thursday. He asked if there would be more interest as if there is he'll save the program on the machine. I told him there would be. I'm waiting for confirmation of price, will update when he comes back to me

Ideal mate looking forward to the price / findings .... oooo exceited :D pop pop bang bang!

Well I just need to measure up the Si box... by chance has anyone got one knocking around they can check?? off the car :? ... long shot I know

Cool. The guy I've been talking to is Steve, really helpful guy. I'm in two minds about 3/4 or inch thick. Thing is I'm having Sports Cats fitted as well so I think I'll go for the 3/4 to begin with. If I want it louder I could always get some 1 inch and sell these ones on :)

Ok got a confirmed price:

Each tube in 3/4 stainless steel is £10 + vat
Delivery is £12 + vat

So for my M, ie two tubes, its come to £38.40 all in including delivery

Guy to speak to is Steve. Email address is [email protected]

My advice to everyone is go for 3/4"... you could always go for bigger later (not that i think you will want to), but stepping down would be a lot more work. 3/4" Is A LOT different to your existing exhaust, and no, there isn't any droning at all.

Sorry, I just scrapped my SI box (unless Kustom101 still have it). I just climbed under the car and took the measurement with a tape measure.. cut a cardboard template and slide it on to the backbox to check clearances and measurements etc

You can of course adjust how loud you want it in the car with the sound generator on the SI... Took all the foam out and made myself deaf, but ended up putting it all back in because i love the noise as it is.

I'm really pleased people are taking so well to this mod... I hope everyone likes the results.

I'll let you know how mine goes on Thursday. Apparently my tubes were shipped out at midday  Its a shame I'm not just doing this instead of getting the cats replaced at the same time as it will be difficult to help you guys with a before and after :(

Something else this excellent idea may open up. A way of temporarily quitening your car down, like for going on track. You can have some sort of method of blocking these pipes to bring the noise down for track, then when you're done unblock for the drive home :driving:

Right before I blast off an email, can someone check this for me??? Just been out to the car so I jacked her up so viewing was not great as I could not see the top of the exhuast but as follows?

Right firstly I did this on paint in about ten mins so be kind!!

Basically does it make sense?

looks good.

Just make sure you lave enough length on the downturns for them to be able to cut and fit them. Bear in mind that they can always make the pipes a bit shorter by putting a small bend in them (they had to do that on one of mine because the one side is slightly different to the other side on the z4m backboxes) You can see the subtle arc in the tube on one of the pics. But they can't make them longer!

Diagram looks fine.

They've made mine 205mm high at each end so it gives plenty of scope to reduce to fit (thats what they suggested). I don't think a few extra mm is going to make much difference in price, its the work bending them.

Good shout mate , should I add an extra say? 2 cm each end therefore

11 cm 36 cm 11 cm = 58cm total lenght :? am going to go with your recommendation 3/4 inch :)

Sorry to but in guys but if the firms supplying the pipe its probably using a 6mtr length of pipe in a cnc bender so just give them your original diagram without the overall length ,its easier for them to sort the rest out :)

Sorry to be a bit dum here this is not my field ? so just show them the 9 36 9 and there sort out the bends etc?

Ok new attemp is this better to send to them

Your edited diagram is spot on
Worked on quite a few cnc benders over the years would have no problem following your diagram :)

Thanks mate

Sending an email to the guys now :D

P.s Am going to try , to get it done before the London meet....

I may be interested in getting in on the Si production run. Any estimate on shipping to this side of the world? All dimensions on the diagram are center to center? Tks

Incompatible if it works good am sure they can ship it would not be that expensive, if you can get I idea if numbers I tell them when I go collect them, but somene in the US could do this I would think.

I would wait till I get some Videos sorted first then you can make a fair evaluation. Yeah its center to center , but added a bit extra on to trim down

1 x Stock Vid
1 x After Vid Outside and inside car , stationary and moving

I try keep the conditions the same, to make a fair test

Well I have order the pipes , and they should be here by Friday this week form warren engineering total cost for Si was the same so £10 a pipe and £12 delivery , so £38.40 altogether

I have also booked the car in at Kustom 101 on the 30th to be installed in the morning, they I have a nice long drive to Reading for work  so a good test drive me thinks!

Vids up that weekend.

As the other guys have mentioned ask for Steve and go to Warren Engineering for professional and friendly outfit so far so certainly recommend in my experience already
