Z4M CSL's with spacers.

I've just fitted a set of csl's to my MC and although the wheels look amazing I can't help but think I'd like to push them out a little more. I know that a lot of the guys with M3 CSL's fit spacers and I've heard of anything from 10 - 15mm being fitted. Has anyone done this on a Z4MC. I'm thinking 12mm hubcentric ones from the like of H&R might be the way to go. I'd be interested to hear your views.

I've been thinking of doing the same, 12mm all round Eibach Hubcentrics was what I was thinking. Just remember to get longer wheel bolts too.

the only place i could see where you may want spacers is on the front.... the rears are completely flush on my car... the only thing is will adding spacers cause rubbing issues? thats the question im unsure about?

if you do go spacers this is a great time imo to get stud and nut conversion for the wheel fixings....

I think I could push them out a little more at the back so that they maybe even slightly protrude. I like the idea of converting to studs and nuts but to be honest I'm not that fussed about it. I'll have to have a good search and see if anyone has done it in the states etc. Maybe 15 on the front 10 on the back would work better.

Spacers can change the dynamics of the forces acting on the various wheel bearings, hubs etc. Not worth it i.m.o.

I've put spacers on several cars and never had a problem. I don't think 10 or 12mm is going to mince your wheel bearings much faster than normal.

I guy I work with has his Porsche Cayenne wheels spaced 60mm with "so far, no problems".

I've seen loads on M3 csl's with the wheels sticking out of the arch. I'll give it a bash and let you know if I have problems.

i can gaurantee you the rear 9.5 wheel will rub if you get it to sit slightly proud of the body.....more to the point will probably be an mot issue!!

i see plenty of CSLs with the arches nice and full but ive never seen one with the wheels proud of the body.

Not to mention being a bit 'Carlos Fandango' LOL :poke:

Ran 15mm-20mm on the TT for 40k without issues, I think this is only an issue when running stupidly wide spacers.

I was told that oem CSLs sit flush, as I've seen reps that sit 10mm further out but thought therefore that they wouldn't fit.

Not hubcentric mate.
Hubcentric spacers are available (although they need to be about 10mm or more thick to have space for the step and the counterbore). I'm running hubcentric 20mm spacers on my OZ 8x18" winter wheels to convert +40 to +20 offset that the ///M needs for proper fitment, when running a narrower rear wheel. They also have a locking spring that holds the spacer on the wheel.

Just remember any part of the tyre that protrudes past the arch line is deemed as an offence by the old bill. I have seen many stretched tyres on MK2 Golfs with the tyres proud of the arch lip and they have failed MOTs.
I am sure the look you are after is just up to the arch line and not over.

Yeah, I seem to have gave the impression I want the car to look like a giant roller skate.

I'm going to start by ordering 12mm hubcentrics as I've found a few examples of those being fitted to the front of Z4MC's. I may try them on the back just to get a measurement of what will work but I'm thinking 5mm is probably going to be enough.

lee remember you'll need longer lug bolts ;-) if this works out for you i may look into this to, have you spoken to anyone Re rubbing on full compression?

Trouble I had with the TT was the lowest hubcentric ones you can get are 8mm I think. After that they are essentially just shims, which means less support for the wheel and possible wheel wobble/judder at speed.

HAHA yeah don't worry I'll be getting longer bolts, don't want the wheels sitting on two threads. I found an example of a very tastefully but extensively modified Z4MC on Bimmerpost and he had 12mm on the front with now mention at all of rubbing. They can always come off and go back on ebay, although a new wing and tyre would suck :D

Hark

Yeah your right I looked at that but I don't see the problem at that size to be honest as they will still fit tight around the hub centre and the bolts so as long as make sure the faces are clean there should be no issue.
