Here's a couple of 'chase cam' laps I did for a couple of our group.

Not what you'd call clear or fast, but that's the nature of the 'Ring.

Don't know what's happening to the overlays as some seem to have nothing, some everything, and some half of them?

Please forgive the Scouse knob's comments & giggles - he was just glad to finally get another lap after a long closure :oops:
 
I haven't been to the 'Ring since 2009 - first time was in 2004 and back then it was *relatively* quiet. The last time I went I hardly got any track time on touristenfahren due to folks throwing it off and closing the track. I guess the place is a victim of its own success...? I'd go back for a private trackday but not a public day, WAY too risky and the potential financial loss far too much outside of the car repairs...!

It is of course, petrol head nirvana, but Spa is just as good... :evil:
 
We're thinking of doing a couple of closed events instead too.

Even if it's closed as much as the one last week, or even if it's session end so that you only actually get half a day, it still lets everyone know where they stand with insurance and you'd assume you wouldn't have the queues.

Only downside is if the track is closed due to weather or big accident as then there's usually no refund and you may/may not be offered a date later in the year, with all the additional costs you've incurred for this trip - which in my case is 2-3 billable days list, ferry/Chunnel, hotel, petrol there & back. So that a 'free' future date would cost at least £1000.
 
I have done quite a few track days there now, and in my experience it is very rare to lose a lot of time to closures on a track day.

However, one thing to watch out for is insurance and who is the organiser. Lots of German companies organise closed track days there, but it is normal for them to require third party insurance even on a track day. So you really need a UK organiser, running to normal UK rules.

I'm only aware of one more UK-organised event this year, the Destination Nurburgring days in early July.
 
If only there was more run-off space!

I'd like to try a track day this year, but id definitely want somewhere with more space to accommodate my inevitable junior mistakes...

Had been thinking about this actually, insurance renewal is due and i'm going to go for a nicer insurer that likes trackdays and mods :)

Bigger wheels = more grip + more sudden breakaway. Looking carefully at that video you can see his correction was too slow, too late and far too much, and he lifted off the throttle which got him into a tankslapper. :!: Poor chap. Honestly wet track days are great you learn a lot more about skidding at safer speeds.

True at tracks with large run-off areas, but not at The Ring with Armco barriers close to the track. :o :o
