Thanks for the great answer!
I think i'm probably scraping the barrel for a good Z4MC, but beggers can't be choosers. Unlike a lot of potential buyers i do have the cash ready to go. I'm happy to top up the value a little bit for the right car that's been looked after properly. I guess it'll be a waiting game though, i think i'd rather get an enthusiast owned car than one from a garage. But that's always been my preference.
Cheers!
I'm glad it was helpful - I learnt most of it on here, which is what makes this forum so great.
I'd had 3.0Si Coupes for 5 years when I went to see the blue one last June, then I went to see a black one a forum member was interested in that was up for sale at a dealer a mile from my house and after driving that one too I just knew I had to get one.
And as things are just now you might not be scraping the barrel, you can just get lucky! A forum member posted a link to his advert for an MC on 15 December I called him and arranged to view it on the 17th. It was up for £14K on 76K miles and after a bit of a haggle (as the seller wanted it gone before Christmas) I left a deposit and collected it on 19 December!
So I bought it knowing it was due a major service as it last had an Inspection 1 service in 2013 on 48K miles, although it had oil services in 2014, 2015 and 2018 with limited miles in that time. Anyway last month Ross (Bowser134 on here) gave it an Inspection 2 and unsurprisingly it needed 5 valve shims, some bushes, a cam-chain tensioner and a few other bits so the final bill ran into 4 figures, but I expected something like that and at least I know it is all sorted for some time now.
After the running-in service the regime is Oil Service, Inspection 1, Oil Service, Inspection 2 then repeat. With BMW Condition Based Servicing it's mileage or 2 years, whichever is the sooner. After my Insp 2 the mileage to the next service was showing as 15,500 miles.
Oil Service is basically oil & filter, cabin micro-filter and brake fluid plus loads of checks, Inspection 1 adds in checking and shimming valve clearances, Inspection 2 is Insp 1 plus spark plugs, engine air filter, gearbox oil and differential oil.
I was glad I had bought privately because by meeting the seller you get a feel for how they treated the car, which doesn't happen with a trader. And although traders are supposed to give a warranty I still think most of those warranties would be more useful as toilet roll substitutes than as a warranty!
I'll just leave this here!
