Z4M Coupe rear deck / parcel shelf rattle

Hi all,

I am looking at buying a Z4M Coupe from a current forum member.
The car seams great however it does have a seriously annoying rattle that appears to be coming from the parcel shelf.

It's very very noticeable at almost all times. Is this common and is there a solution?

Thanks for your time, I'm looking forward to ownership and contributing in here :D

Sounds like one of those things Angus. Each car occasionaly develops its own squeak or rattle now and again. Suggest really tracking the source and adapting, lubricating, cushioning etc depending on the culprit. Or just live with it; will probably disappear anyway and once you start putting your foot down you wont be listening to that anyway :D

does the rattle disappear when load cover is retracted ?

Thanks guys, this sure is an active forum.
Mr wilks, I'm not sure only went out in it for 5mins.

You wouldnt have thought it would be anything serious.

when i went out in the coupe i bought i heard the rattle straight away . it went away after stopping & retracting the load cover .
i just use the load cover now if parked up & want to hide away my valuables / cream cakes, beers etc :D
its worth investigating

Shouldnt be anything serious as there's not a great deal going on back there anyway. As Mr Wilks says, probably the retractable cover.

I found the cause of a rattle in mine, but it was a trim clip that had come loose and was rattling around between the hatch and the trim.

Veey common, mine did that and on inspection a couple of the clips on each of the panels had broken. I bought 2 new side panels on eBay, fitted them and the problem went away.

If your after panels pm me as I would sell the spare ones for sale now.

Ive put a deposit on a Z4mc which has a rattle. In my experience they are nearly always traceable and it really isn't a deal breaker.

PS - Black mc's with champ leather are the best !!

the culprit is probably the cheap crappy plastic trim that afflicts 99% of modern cars its not even screwed together these days just pressed with shaped clips, mine rattles a lot from behind the seats,a high pitched annoying sound like having a wasp near your ear, pretty hateful at the best of times, then it goes away, and then comes back.

Mine was rattle free until it went into a BMW bodyshop to get some tailgate/hatch remedial work done (the patchy rust on the underside of the hatch), and then it rattled until I fixed it myself :headbang:

You do wonder why we trust our cars to some dealers when they provide a below-average service half the time.
