Z4M Coupe Performance Upgrades ??

I'd say tyres and suspension first for the track and different suspension mods first for the road
And the answer to that one is: adjustable suspension. Best of both worlds.

If I've got any left after I've bought a Pagani Zonda for myself, a Veyron for my wife. And then my daughters want ........

Indeed, but it would be quite a big bite out of my supercharger fund!

I hope they'll insure you when you come to get it done. Byron was saying a while back that if it wasn't for his fleet policy he'd be stuck...

I've not found an insurer who'll cover a supercharger yet. I phoned quite a few mainstream companies a while ago and they all flat refused at any cost. I thought I'd try a few specialist companies before I spend any cash. It'll be at least a year anyway...

They're a lot less adventurous than they used to be. My 230hp Golf got remapped to 307hp and it was a very small premium increase. Now the same company refuses to touch a car with a strut brace :headbang:

Beedub might know of a few specialist companies that will cover the more adventurous mods. IIRC his insurance company threatened to remove the Zed from his fleet policy so he looked into alternatives. In the end I think they relented as they wanted his company business. Exdos should have a few suggestions too as he has two fairly heavily modified ///Ms. I have to remove the cross bar from my strut brace after track days as technically it's not covered by my insurance company

its true :-) after 2012s world of bad luck i had 2 cars stolen, they gave me 3 months to find a new insurer for the z4m, after this time everybody said "NO", due to the fact we have around 30 high end company cars they decided they wanted my business more :-) BUT..... huge but.... after the theft of the 2 cars, the way they dealt with things left me soooooo concerned i decided to cancel the policy and get a new fleet insurer, let me tell you, when you see our yearly premium, its not hard to find a new insurer.... Incidently i went with specialist reis compeition car policy for the z4m , agreed value of 36k and every single nut and bolt properly declared and insured for, they even cover my trackdays :-) or 5 a year... Wierdly they wanted to come and see the car and take detailed photo's, no probs and i was glad for them to come and note the condition and standard of whats been done.... insuring that car Nearly forced me to sell it..... luckily reis came to my rescue, Great company and great people!! its not cheap tho ... sigggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

The car can have upto 600hp and i can now add as many mods as i want for no further increase in premium, :-) i just email them an up to date list every time i add a new mod ( seems to be weekly at the mo, lol)

In the past, I've been with Heritage who will cover mods and will also cover trackdays for an extra premium per trackday. I'm now with ClassicLine for both Z3MC and Z4MC and they are very relaxed about my mods (lots of stuff on the Z3MC) and I have an agreed valuation on the Z3MC, which is good, and they also allow trackdays with prior notification with an increased excess (20% on the Z3MC). Not the cheapest out there (just over £500 each) but I like my cars far more when they've been modified so I'm happy(ish) to pay for the cover and you get what you pay for.

I could do it a lot cheaper, even with the mods, if I were to SORN the cars over the winter months, and save the Road Fund Licence, but I prefer to take the cars out for a blast at least once a fortnight, so that everything gets used, up to working temperature and lubricated. I don't like laying up vehicles, it's not good for them. This way, I can regularly drive the cars and only put 500 miles per year on the car for this basic preventive use. I've found this is cheaper (and more fun) than finding things don't work when you use a vehicle infrequently.

My Z3MC is due for renewal at the end of this month and I'll ask about cover for a supercharger, and what mods they might not want to cover.

An insurance company's worth is judged at claim time not by how much they charge you or whether they allow you this mod or that.

I'm worried about you, it seems that you are stalking me! It's you with those red eyes furtively looking out of the bushes. I know you're in there ! :o

What you have said should go without saying! The fact is that with a modded car, one has less choice of insurer willing to offer insurance, and premiums are higher for what is perceived by the insurance industry as a bigger risk to cover. Since I have modded cars I have to pay more but would prefer to pay less. Simples! I hope I never find out how good/bad ClassicLine is at claim time.

They are good, I insure my Elise with them and had to claim when someone hit it whilst parked.

Haha. My stalking days are over... :D

My point was that I'd rather pay a bit more for my insurance policy if I know that come claim time, I'm not going to be presented with the classic: "Actually sir, on page 1145 of our policy under section 34, sub paragraph 50, line 22, it specifically excludes cover for theft of motor vehicle if you were having a bath at the time of the theft" ;)

And funnily enough, I've never made a claim so I'd be more interested to hear how claims are handled by a company rather what is or isn't covered.

one of the main reasons why im not saving my pennies for a supercharger is that i know i'd never get insured....at my age its hard enough with just the "boggo" ///M
