Z4M Coupe - £16,750

It should have the running in service between 1200 and 1800 miles to prevent engine damage (according to BMW)
It couldn't be sold as an Approved Used car and you wouldn't be able to get a BMW warranty.
I suppose it would also rule out any 'goodwill' gesture from BMW too.

Whether those 200 miles really matters.....
What I don't understand is why we're seeing a few with this running in check not done (on time or not at all) - especially since it was free.

It sounds like it can be used as a good bargaining tool though, if the lack of it instantly takes £2k of the price.

How many Z4Ms are out of new/AUC warranty and have no extended BMW warranty in place? Surely this one is no more of a risk than those and if the engine's lasted 50,000 miles it's likely to be fine.

Just reading though this post and the comments about Sat Nav, and I know it's off topic however, has anybody on here, apart from a dealer, fitted Sat Nav as an optional extra on a new car. To me spending £2k on something that I already own, which does not significantly increase the resale value (yes maybe the ease in which it re-sells) seems like quite an unnecessary extravagance, Just wondering.

sars, think you're right, the costs are hard to justify. You will probably see maybe half the cost of the nav back at resale time depending on how long you keep the car. BMW nav is just too expensive, if it was a grand or something then fair enough.

Discussed before of course, but unfortunately so many people do buy it, it has become pretty much expected (standard on the new M3 for this reason) and makes cars without a problem to shift regardless of the price saving. People want the toys. It's like leather on a 330Ci Sport - I had one with alcantara/cloth instead. I actually like it - warm in winter, cool in summer, doesn't show the wear as much. I got it for a song, but when I tried to sell it / trade it, saying 'no leather' was like saying 'multiple corpses in the boot'. Some dealers even suggested I get it re-trimmed....it was manual too, and some dealers said that was also a problem. I sold it for a fair price eventually, but I consider it a lesson learned.

I wouldn't buy an M car without it....if buying new, I would just add £2k to the list price and accept the car isn't £40k, it's £42k

For the record it had its first service at 2000 miles. Is this too late? I am actually really tempted by this one and have had it HPI checked to reveal a clean bill of health!

Ahh, that'll be why he can't sell it back to BMW then.

Blatant pimp ... if you're interested in one that's had all the services at the right time, still has BMW warranty, then mine is almost identical to that example but with less miles for only £1k more. You can find it in the For Sale section on here or also on PistonHeads.

I really don't understand why people don't get the 1200 mile service done. You have to be brain dead.

Hmm what would you have done if you were me - £3k between the car I bought and the next equivalent one with nav and bluetooth, I did think long and hard about it. I won't be selling before 5 years old, so £13-15k max by then, not sure it will make much difference?

Yeah I know but when you come to sell there is always a reason...wrong colour, no nav, wrong gearbox, interior is wrong colour, etc.

What's the fuss with satnav? Ive got it in to my head as people seem to infer an M without integrated nav is like a house without a roof, and its nice for the Bluetooth screen etc. But if it's like the other Beemer units i've used its no better than a tom-tom, apart from always being there and lack of wires. Also I'm thinking that it will need new maps soon, as they will be a few years old soon.

Not trolling I'm just wondering how it got such a must have rep?

Just like seat heating etc. If you buy the top model, the general perception is that the toys are there. No toys, then you look for the next car that does.

Just the way it is, just like that launch colours are less desirable during the first few years.

Agree. If you are looking for M3/M5, you even expect TV function as "standard" added option.

I suppose if BMW had created a 'CSL' version of the Z4M with lightweight manual seats, no seat heating, no nav, no air con, cardboard boot etc w e'd all be after that and nav wouldn't have been mentioned

Yep. BMW could have sold CSL version at higher price with less gadgets. But you will have carbon fibre everywhere. :D

I think built-in sat nav is only one aspect of a car that people might be concerned with. Bear in mind that technology moves on (larger screens and ease of use) and having an older type of built-in sat nav isn't as appealing to me as having a newer portable system.

I'm surprised that some people consider Interlagos as a poor colour. If I had free choice again I would still go for IB, I would have considered Imola a tough one to shift. All about opinions. I think it is a mistake to keep dropping the price, just patience required for the right buyer to come along. Maybe some are looking at this car and thinking it is TOO cheap and there must be something wrong with it, without taking a chance and seeing it in the flesh?

When I was buying I deliberately avoided IB, your signature is an exception but in most for sale' adds it just looks really flat and dull. I also found they were the cheapest available at the time I realise that in person it is a very nice colour but I still prefer the alternatives. IB seems to be the most common colour in the classifieds and as a result takes the biggest hit.

Imola on the otherhand seems much rarer on the Coupe and has always been a well liked colour on the E46 and E39 M cars. It's another colour that suffers in poor quality pictures but in person it really looks great especially after a good wash. I also think the colour suits the personality of the car  whereas IB is more suited to the bigger stuff. All imho.

Sorry, didn't mean it to sound that I don't like Imola, I do. Just thought it would be less popular than Interlagos.
