Z4M C values

Hi all

I'm thinking about buying one of these (good example, under 40k miles, £25k), but I'm not sure if it's right for me.

I will only drive it 2-4k miles per year.

Is it wishful thinking to think that the car is unlikely to depreciate long term if I am putting those miles on it?

Or has the car already appreciated so much that I will likely lose out?

I love the car, but can only justify the running costs if ot will hold its value.

I’d treat it as a car & not as an investment-values can go up and down so I’d put the money in the bank if that’s an issue :?
Just my opinion of course.

Welcome to the forum by the way OP.

The simple answer to your question is nobody knows!

But doing that sort of mileage I would have thought if you did lose a bit it wouldn't be a lot - but there is no guarantee of that so you really need to want one anyway.

Not the same obviously, but I bought my 1st 3.0Si Coupe in 2014 for a bit below £10K and ran it for 2 years and 8K miles and sold it for a few hundred more than I paid for it so I was more than happy with that.

For some reason Coupes always seem to command a premium compared to the equivalent Roadsters.

Based on what is for sale at the moment that doesn't sound like a bad deal, but obviously history and condition play a big part when it comes to values.

I would say 25k sounds about right. For a well sorted car with good history i would pay a maximum of 26k, with that kind of millage. But with these cars millage should not be your priority. Look at the cars service history, how often it had its oil changes, ... etc. I have seen cars with 70k miles that are in way better condition, compared to a car with 40k miles. Hope you find what you are looking for

If you have a eye on future resale / potential drop then that car sounds the absolute opposite of what you should be buying
So many ZMCs out there that represent a "potentailly" shrewd buy .
A 37500 car you might add 7k/8k in 2 years ? Factor in some spend along the way & id say that was a swift way to drop £2k/£4k .
A 50k car in mint order right now would struggle to see £21k private sale , that may or may not swing either way .

Pay £17k for this https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=115325 add your 7k/8k in 2 years & you have far more chance of seeing your £17k back 8) that's just my take of course , others may well disagree

Thanks for the feedback. I anticipate putting 2-4k per year on it and keeping it for 5 years or so.

Then press your button & gamble away  enjoy the car & forget about future resale , nobody on here can predict where values will be in 5 years time

Thanks. Hard decision though and I think your initial instinct is right. But I have my heart set on it. The Mrs doesn't though.

What he said
Buy it enjoy and if you make some when you sell great if you don't and loose some you have enjoyed the car anyway.

Buy any car because you want the car and then enjoy it as much as you have time for. :driving:

The value is driven by the state of western economies and fashion. There are other important niche items that should help the MC. The manual gearbox and S54 engine are two such items. None guaratee the future value.

Thanks for the replies all.

I'm definitely not looking for, or relying on, an investment. I'm fine with losing a little bit. I guess what I am trying to avoid is something that's going to lose a lot of money, bearing in mind I will only be doing 2k per year probably.

I’ve had my ///M for nearly 8 years. Paid £15.5k for it on 35k. Now still worth about the same with 51k on it.

Inspection 2 could be £700+ though so any car needing one of those is going to cost, where as a car that isn’t due for a good while will see you £700+ ahead.

Spending more could result in losing more obviously. I’d look at that car mr wilks linked. 5k odd cheaper with 30k more miles. It’s condition could be as good if not better.

I suggest foremost you buy a Z4MC because you love the car, not the money... because to look after them properly you’ll need to splash the cash.. then buy on condition & history

Fair enough. Thank you. To be honest, I really, really like them but I am not sure I can justify the cost. I'm going to think long and hard about it!

That's your head speaking!

If you want to succumb to your heart, probably best not to drive one.
