Z4M C - clutch software

Hi All
New owner of Z4MC and loving it! :D :D :D :D :D :D
A change from the last M5................
OK, a friend has said that he has seen a mod/change to the clutch software that gives you more control and less 'kangaroo starts' when in sport mode.
He cant remember where he saw this info!!!!

I am just getting back to propper driving in a propper drivers car as opposed to the DSG in the M5.
I have been told that there is some change that can over ride the software set up that makes the clutch 'idiot proof' for the USA market that makes it impossible to stall.

Does anyone have any idea if this 'fix' exists?

I really hope to get some decent pix of the car to enter into the site comp each month. Unfortunately some local F***wit has just double keyed all one side of the car :fuelfire:
Any recommendations for SW London dentmaster or similar?

Thanks in advance for ANY help offered

Ade

Ade - welcome to the Forum  ....and sorry to hear about the damage :( Not sure about any software upgrades for your clutch but for the normal 'manual' Zeds there is a modification to the clutch delay valve (CDV) which improves clutch response in first and second. Quick search will find details. As for repirs in SW London - hopefully someone will respond.

As Alan has said think you will find they are referring to the modified CDV.

It's impossible to prevent someone from stalling a manual car.

Were the Z4M's fitted with the CDV then? As the M3's to my knowledge never were. They only put them on standard spec cars, not M cars.

Get some pics up, and so sorry to hear about some pri*k keying your PAJ

They're on e46 M3s, CSLs and Z4Ms.

They aint, well not on a few M3's ive worked on anyway. How can BMW fit these stupid things to M cars then

Just reading up on it, and it appears the M3 from 2003 onwards did have them, but they are a unique one to the M3/Z4M. So not the same CDV as on other models, although not sure what difference there is. Will grab one tomorrow, as ive got a couple of standard ones at home, so see what the difference is.

Why on earth they bother i dont know, but get the thing removed imo.

I've said it before but the CDV removal (or modification) doesnt really "transform" the car in my opinion. OK it's just a bit easier in city driving but even without it you can still kangaroo if you're not used to the car.

I found it made a real difference if you are changing up at speed, as with the CDV it would almost make the clutch slip as it was not engaging quick enough so the clutch would almost glaze over a tad. I personally hate it, but many do not even know they are they. But for one thing if you do drive spiritedly then your clutch will wear out faster.

I generally hear non-M Z4's fare better with it off than M's. It hasnt made much of a difference on mine apart from it now doesnt lurch a bit right after you let go of the clutch when in gear and coasting along as it used to. For the record i've completely removed mine, didnt modify it.

Not really sure why people modify them, as on the 3 series and z4 you can just remove them. IIRC it was only the 5 series that had fixed lines, or not enough slack to just remove it. I certainly wont be replacing mine with anything, just got to get off my arse and take it out! But then when ever im off its raining!

Thanks for all the positive responses and suitably restrained comments regarding the deliberate vandalism.
The CDV will be coming off........... although I have found a HUGE improvement by turning the traction control off :) ALWAYS I realise I can still drive a propper car!
The guttless w***er who keyed my car and a friend's 3series is definitely a neighbour. I cant be held responsible for my actions if I catch him/her 8)
Since the all the pannels on drivers side have been 'done' and its a ruby black car, so hard to match the candy paint, I was considering a vinyl wrap. Flat grey seems a better option than the obvious matt black. Carbon is a bit too bling and Kings Road arab flash.......
Does anyone have any opinion? Or better still, seen any pix of a Coupe wrapped
I think I may have a more 'cost effective solution than getting the respray. An insurance claim will kill my premiums as its a 'work' car too. However, the factory 19"s may need a colour change too.
