Z4M Brakes on Z4?

Hi,

I did some searches and found some good threads on lower cost options for improving the brakes.

Given a comparison between:

3.2 M model Z4 Coupe (06/07)
3.0 SI Sport model Z4 Coupe (06/07)

What differences are there on the hubs/brakes etc? Is this just too expensive?

Cheers

If you have a "standard" Z4 you'll need to stick with Z4 or E46 (non M) brakes. If you want to go to M brakes I believe you would need to also change the suspension, which becomes a very big job! Not even sure whether or not you would also need to update the master cylinder?

What's your car?

ADD: Have a look at this thread: Cheap Brake Upgrade
(while I was adding this mmm-five has already posted a suggestion below)

This shows you the calliper options from other cars, available from eBay / breakers. If you have a 3.0 currently you don't need to upgrade the rears, if you have a smaller engine than that you should upgrade the rears, ideally, to maintain the front /rear bias. By upgrade the rears, I mean the callipers. I would match the disk and pad type all round, even if not upgrading the rear callipers, to maintain the balance.

The ///M brakes are not a straight swap, but if you're handy enough, and want to mess about with brake cylinders an such, then I'm sure it's doable.
However it's probably MUCH cheaper to go for the SI/330D brakes or a 'cheap' set of fronts from K-Sport (about £700 for 8-pots & 330mm discs) - no affiliation, just saw these listed elsewhere.

Thanks Guys,

This would explain why there are so few threads on this upgrade then (as basically it is not cost-effective!)

Cheers

Simon
