Z4M Brakes Crap?

Hi guys,

Just after some advice on brakes.

I've just had an inspection 2 carried out with new front brake lines and fresh brake fluid at RBM. Took the car out today to work and on the way home had to brake quite hard for the first time, the brake performance was absolute crap.

The pedal went a long way down and didn't really bite hard at any point during the stop. I'm able to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor when the car's idling. I've noticed if I pump the brake pedal once before I get on the brake that it performs a bit better and there's feel further up the brake pedal travel but overall it's not brilliant.

It's on PS4S's so not suffering from crap tyres, nothing was mentioned by the garage r.e brakes when I took it in for its service.

What's going on here? Is this a Z4m thing or is mine f00ked?

For reference, I have a modernish CLA diesel estate that almost rips your face off when you brake hard. The Z4M feels like it's on the opposite spectrum.

Doesn't sound right. On track they fade but they are very sharp day to day and you don't have to press the pedal far. My 911 996 on the other hand the harder you press the harder they bite but the Z4Ms are a lot sharper to the point I put myself through the windscreen when I jump out of one into another lol.

Probably just give Rob a ring.

That definitely doesn't sound right, mine are really sharp.

Assuming yours weren't like that before I'd be giving Ross a call.

Air in your braking system, get them bled again, including purging the abs unit which requires a computer to do.

Sounds like you have some air in the hydraulic system and it needs a rebleed. Never heard a bad word about Ross’s outfit, I’m sure he’ll put you right.

Second this, sounds like needing re bleeding, first time I it new Discs and Pads on mine,it was like that, and garage had to do them another twice to get it fully sharp again

Allowing a 150mph/performance car out of the garage door with a spongey brake pedal wouldn’t fill me with any confidence in the establishment no matter what their priori reputation - it would fail an mot in that condition.

Stock z4m brakes with proper pads and fluid are some of the best brakes I've ever come across stock wise.. good luck tracking down your issue.

Does seem odd, they would have taken it for a test drive before handing it back to the OP. Best to contact RBM and see what they say.
