I need new front discs/pads and probably a caliper refurb/replacement. . . So I might as well go for an upgrade

I was looking at K-Sport - back to full price though after Black Friday sale - cant justify full price of around £2k for K-Sports

Looking at the AP Racing CP9040 Reyland kit with 362mm floating rotors - Just over £2k

http://www.reyland.co.uk/e46-front/

Any better options out there?

The FreakyParts E46 M3 kit will fit with OEM discs and a spacer on the front wheels assuming they are 224M. https://freakyparts.co.uk/collections/bmw-e46-m3-brakes/products/bmw-e46-m3-brembo-4-pot-big-brake-kit

Freaky parts also have AMG/Renault Sport/Alfa Brembo caliper brackets to use with E9x M3 360mm disks, so you get a big brake upgrade as well.

Renault Megan brembos fit and it's probably the cheapest way to get in. They also come with the brackets

or this one for the Z4M kit for larger CSL discs...

E9x M3 discs foul the lower steering arm, I tried them on my Z4M and had to settle for the stock discs.

That’s a shame - the Alfa set up looked quite good as they did front and rear.

Does that mean other BBKs could/will foul the arms?

Had a mad idea of fitting F8x CCBs - someone has done it on E46 M3. (Or M2 2NH brakes if I was being a bit more sensible)

Na, it just means the offset of the e9x m3 discs don't work.

Hi Martyn

Was the disc seated on the hub and contacting, I’m wondering as it may be possible to shim the front bearing off the front spline as e46 owners do with the f80 m3 discs

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

Yeah a spacer would have provided sufficient clearance, but then the caliper brackets that came with the kit would have needed to be modified too.

I ran the F8x 380mm setup on my old M3, it was fantastic.

Thanks for the reply, I’m going to contact freaky parts and see if they can do a custom carrier that matches the spacer for the disc, otherwise I’ll start phoning machine shops.

I can’t go for the f80 brakes as I will need 19” wheels to clear them I think

If you're anywhere near me you're welcome to borrow the brand new set of e9x M3 discs I have for mock up if you like?
