Z4M Auto wipe sensitivity stalk doesn't work

My Z4M has the auto wipers installed, however when I click the wiper stalk to position 1 I find the auto wipes are too frequent. I have tried adjusting the sensitivity using the dial on the stalk but the sensitivity seems to be exactly the same whether the dial is at the top or bottom.

The actual wipers themselves seem to function fine, but I don't like the wipers going regularly when there's hardly any water on the screen.

Anybody have an idea as to what it could be?

I find there isn't a huge difference in the sensitivity. Try timing between pulses with a hose spraying on the windscreen. If the sensor fails I believe it defaults to a standard interval. INPA will also show sensor status.

yeah I had a failed sensor on my old Z and it didnt work at all

I find adjusting the sensitivity is a fickle business with working sensors as I somethimes have to change the setting depending on how bad its raining but generally have it somewhere in the middle

Pretty sure with mine in position 1 wipers won't activate at all unless there is some water and then adjusts pretty well according to severity automatically. I've never had to use the speed slider on the stalk. As said sounds like your sensor could be goosed? It's below the rear view mirror if you were wondering. I believe they can often be incorrectly re-installed if the windscreen has been changed. As steve says INPA will show what's going on with it.

The sensor itself is fine at 'seeing' the rain on the screen and wiping at the correct time.

The issue is that the sensitivity dial on the stalk seems to do very little to actually change the sensitivity. Is this normal, or could this be something with the sensor and stalk not talking to each other properly?

if there is hardly any rain just wipe manually when you need to. when there is a steady flow of rain the stick it into auto mode.

I've had 2 Z4 and an E46 3 series with the same setup, and I don't remember the sensitivity adjustment making much of a difference on any of them.
